I will be graduating next week with my CDL A I have been looking online to review all companies. I am considering Roehl and USA Xpress. Tell me what you think about these two companies for a new driver.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Great choices for you to learn.

Us Xpress uses automatics. I'm not sure about Roehl. I would try and go somewhere that will give you a manual transmission. You don't want to be stuck somewhere because you can't shift gears. Good luck with whoever you choose.
Swaps Thanks this. -
Totally agree with this post, chances are you won't be driving for them the rest of your career

Welcome to the forum Barrom12! And congratulations! I'm a wannabe too and I've researched a lot of carriers. Roehl has very, very impressive SafeStat scores, U.S. Xpress...not as good but passable. Find all the Roehl and U.S. Xpress threads on here that you can find, read them all, then you'll have a better idea. You are fortunate to have found the Truckers' Trucking Forum. The more you read here, the more you'll understand why I say that. Just curious, but during the time you've been in school, was there much (any?) discussion about CSA 2010? Good luck to you, be safe, keep learning!

I've been here for a couple months now, I've read a lot about the "starter companies" and from what I've read, Roehl seems to be the best of the worst. There are problems, but every company has problems. When you're pushing 10,000+ trucks, things are going to slip up now and then.
I'm really hoping some of my connections work out so i can get a job in one of the local OTR companies here. But I'll still be sending applications to Roehl and others. -
Ok let me chime in here with a nearly personal experience.
'Bout three years ago I was working for a tow company and one of the drivers who was on a two car carrier (class C) and I were talking one day. Apparently he had a class A and two years OTR with US Xpress and wanted to go local. Well not only would none of the local companies hire him, the only OTR companies that would look at him were the usual training companies.
Because his only experience after school was with automatics.
YMMV but ....... this is my $0.02

I would stay away from USA. Roehl isn't bad. You have a period of life adjustment you are going to have to go thru no matter whom you choose. The biggest thing is going to be your adjusting to the new situation. Listen to your trainer he may tell you things that seem opposite to what you think, but once you get out of his truck and into your then you can read just to what you think. Just take what you need to start with, kind of think of it as staying in someone else house. Good Luck and chin up.
By the way I would stay away from anyone putting you into automatic to start with you need the experience of a manual transmission. Then later if you want to go to an auto shift great. But take the time to learn a manual you'll not regret it.
