I'm leaving an automotive company with a significant cash buyout. I understand that my fist couple of years will be lower pay and a lot of learning but the buyout money will allow us to to live at the same income level I'm at now. I am married and have 2 adult kids. My wife is supportive of this move because she knows it's something I've wanted to do for a long time. Will I like it? I guess time will tell. I'll tell you this, I'm beyond excited to give it a try. Pulling tanker might not end up being my cup of tea but there are lots of other options to try before I consider throwing in the towel. I'll keep you updated. I appreciate your feedback.

I can post some more companies if you want. Tried to post a variety of different types of trucking.

I hauled boats early in my career; only had few months driving experience.
Really liked it. Pay was a little low though. Enjoyed gaining the boat hauling experience.Last edited: Apr 15, 2023

Okay, good move, the automotive industry is in EXTREME trouble, and at least you're not leaving a highly profitable business like bilking the elderly . Social media has changed a lot. Many marital problems stemmed from not seeing someone for weeks. I live in central Colorado, and keep tabs on what's what for T/T jobs. Seems most company jobs hover start around $60K/year, the more specialized, naturally the pay is better, but takes 1 year minimum. These "starter" jobs aren't the end of the world, in fact, you'll learn a lot of aspects of trucking, you might not in a specialized deal. Couple local jobs near me that needed a year, but great jobs, a mail hauler, a bulk water hauler, lots of dump truck/construction and if you have the grapes, fuel haulers always looking, but rarely a grad. Insurance got the last say there. Good luck, kind of funny, I'm thinking of going back to Michigan, to the UP. Colorado isn't for poor people but a slew of jobs.

Well Friday marked the end of my first week of Trucking school. I passed my General knowledge, combination vehicle, and air break test only missing 1 question out of 90 total across all three tests! That gives me a lot of confidence in my ability to retain a lot of information. I'm sure I'm going to need that for what comes next. Yard training starts tomorrow with a healthy dose of PRE TRIP INSPECTION...
Nahbrown Thanks this.
