Actually research it the smaller finer particles out of a dpf float in the air as nano particles. The heavy soot out of the older engines is bigger particles falls to the ground. Numerous studies done. You wouldn’t like my diesels than theyroll coal. Even my diesel cars do. Not very black but they do smoke a little.

Horizontal exhaust is the real old school. Vertical exhaust came about as P.I.E. huffed and puffed over the mountains with their old Cummins and horizontal exhaust, to the point that it reduced visibility for traffic behind them and vertical exhaust was born.

I don't know if this is true or not but I like it. Can't get much "older school" than P.I.EIH9300SBA, HoundDog7, JoeyJunk and 1 other person Thank this.

Are you saying North Carolina safety inspections? Commercial vehicles in North Carolina dont have to undergo any yearly safety inspection.

The CM870 or 871 in my truck with 2500 hours on the clock has nearly zero smoke now compared to when it was intact. Just saying.

That’s odd. Every time I do an FHWA annual, I have to submit an NCSI report to License and Theft as well. Can you cite where this exemption is? I have the book, but it’s not with me at the moment.
-
I don't know the exemption, I dont even know the rule. If you live in NC, maybe its the county..... I dont know. But ive lived in 3 different counties with a commercial vehicle(even a personal commercial vehicle) assuming its diesel, Ive never been required to get an inspection.Oxbow Thanks this.

How old are these vehicles? The only thing which varies by county is emissions, which 19 counties require. Even then, that’s only for gas powered vehicles in the light duty emissions category (GVWR of 8500 or less), more than three but less than 20 years old, and motorcycles (including ATVs), low speed vehicles (I.e., golf carts), XUVs (side-by-sides), and motorhomes are exempt.
NCSI is statewide, and it’s during the safety inspection where they inspect for presence of emissions equipment, evidence of tampering, etc.nikmirbre Thanks this. -
Ive got a 2016 and various years from 2000-2009. Never had a safety inspection. My buddies who live in Charlotte and Mebane, have never heard of it either....
