I've had a interest in driving a truck ever since I was in high school and here I am 22 years later determined to do it! My kid's in college now and after 20years with the same company I'm ready for a change. I figure my age and being a female will make it even harder for me to get a job driving. I've been looking at different schools and trying to pick one that I think will benefit me the most. If anyone has any advice about trucking schools in Tennessee area, please share. And if they can, as the ol saying goes ''teach this old dog new tricks'', would appreciate any advice about the ins an outs of their life as a trucker. Thanks and looking forward to meeting new friends on the road. :yes2557:

Old dog, old dog? You're a pup! Welcome to our Habitat for Hilarity. Kick off your shoes and join in. Caution: Don't make a move toward school or toward a carrier before you've thoroughly researched options here. There are a number of female truckers on this forum. Stand by, they'll help...so will the rest of us. Thanks for becoming a member, smart move!

Tennessee - one of my favorite states!
I just finished school a few weeks ago in Millington, TN. But, like Oldnewbie said, do a ton of research on every option available to you. Good luck!

At least you waited until the kids are gone because Trucking demands you be available 24/7 two to three weeks at a time. It tough being out OTR for long periods unless you have a close friend or family to support you via phone. This is a Lifestyle. Driving takes over your days and nights. for me long hauls are the best. Pick up a load in New Jersey and run all the way to the west coast and deliver in Ca. Then turn around and run back to the east coast then go home for three days for a break. After a couple of years you will know every crook and cranny of the US Interstate system and meet some interesting person along the way. Don't let the company push you around, they will try, but you are the one responsible if any thing goes wrong and they will blame you for any violations. If you cant run it legal don't run it. CSA 2010 is cracking down on the concrete cowboys.

Be safe and have a good trip!

    Howdy Tenn!

AWESOME! Hey, I used to live in Millington when I was in the Navy (A school there). I heard they no longer have the school there.

Pretty country out off the base.

    Welcome from another Country Girl!
