I’m giving that Mack mp8he a try. It’ll hopefully get built in October with the 13sp and 2.26 rears to pull tanker. I have no grand plans for it to get great mileage hauling lp, but I’m interested to see what it’ll do hauling chemicals. It will be a flattop though so that’ll probably hurt me, but just the price difference from a paccar product was enough to make the change.

Before you go that far out on the bleeding edge with specs, ask your salesman to get you a Predictor Performance Analysis (that's what it's called). If he seems puzzled, ask someone else. This is one I got for mine, to give you an idea of what you get. You may want to run a couple different scenarios, with different target speeds, ratio options, GVW, etc. The actual truck performs exactly as these charts show.

I don't know how new trucks are still 200K+. I thought the world was supposed to be ending in trucking?Rideandrepair and ducnut Thank this.

Another big jump this week. 52 more units available for sale from last week. That's a 11% increase from last week and 24% increase since I started tracking this a month ago. Taking a browse through the new units for sale this week I'm seeing multiple specd units for sale so it looks like fleets aren't taking delivery of their orders. As I've said multiple times orders do not equal sales and these manufactures are up next for a reality check. -
5 or 6 new Pete’s delivered this week and all are going direct to customers and already SOLD. No stock trucks on the lot to show or even sell.
Parking lot is full of broken trucks and we cannot fix them fast enough. As soon as I clear out four or five spaces tow trucks plug them up before the day is out.
Nobody wants to wrench or work OT. Apparently times are not hard enough yet.larry2903, Magoo1968, Accidental Trucker and 11 others Thank this. -
I got an analysis with a nice spreadsheet showing different rpm at different speeds. There will definitely be a considerable amount of time when I won’t be running in the top hole. I’m also empty 50% of the time.

I noticed that Council Bluffs Peterbilt took all the prices off of their trucks listed online. They had several day cab 579s with 12 sp autos and 450 cummins for $226k.

That’s the idea. We’ve been conditioned to think we should always run in high gear, all the time. It’ll be mostly empty and downgrade miles, now.
Did Mack do away with their mid-roof? I’d think that would be worthwhile, pulling a bottle.Siinman Thanks this. -
Absolutely nuts. Elkhorn trucks is wanting 212 to 250k for their new cat powered trucks. I wouldn't mind getting a newer rig, but at these prices it's hard to justify. In my mind a new truck is still 180k tops. Maybe I'll have to adjust my thinking at some point or maybe I'll just keep fixing up old trucks ♂️ lol
