Ouch. Do you have your own authority? Maybe you find a "hot shot"/ltl load you can make the wife pick up to pay for the fuel atleast. That really sucks having to pay that much to get an empty trailer to your new place. Id be looking to just sell the #### thing and buy another when you get set up at the destination.

Could you just mount a reese hitch and a 2-5/16 ball to the rear crossmember like this guy did and pull it under the 53ft van trailer? Yeah they are are to back up, but not much once you get the hang of it.

Nice photo shop. He must use a gin-pole winch and a rolling pin tail board oilfield float style to drop the trailer since the landing gear are missing. Lol!

    Short answer, no.

If the trailer was 48 feet, and you were out west (west of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, OK, and Texas) you could do it. Its called Rocky Mountain Doubles.

But with a 53 footer, nope.

Yeah he takes them off while the car trailer is hooked up. It's a neat setup!

If you are tagged for not for hire and you’re not getting paid for the move then you don’t have to worry about CMV regulations. But if it’s tagged as for hire then yeah you will have to. Now the only thing about pulling the 20’ will be bumper to bumper length not sure off the top of my head but I think it’s 100’ and under you should be ok.
