This would be a good thread to ask this on, my uncle has a one ton truck he uses under his authority to pull a gooseneck trailer hauling whatever he can get. He deleted the DPF filter, or something, says he has a straight pipe all the way I guess from the engine to the tail. I assume the filter was somewhere between there. Anyway he says "oh I can't go to california because my truck is deleted, if they get under there and see the pipe I'm screwed", that's the case no matter where he gets stopped and inspected if they get under his truck and notice this, correct?

I don’t know about the EPA but Edmonton passed a law that they can go after anyone with a modified exhaust. I have to idle around with my LBZ that has a 5” Straight Pipe trying to avoid the Peace Officers (rent a cops with absurd attitudes).
Excessive Noise from Vehicles
Fines for Violation
The EPS may charge violators at three benchmark noise levels tested when a motorcycle is stationary (*only motorcycles may be tested for a decibel reading at this time):
Violators in excess of 92 dbA at idle for all motorcycles
Violators in excess of 96 dbA at 2000 rpm for motorcycles having less than 3 cylinders or more than 4 cylinders
Violators in excess of 100 dbA at 5000 rpm for motorcycles with 3 or 4 cylinders.
Bylaw 5590
Section 90.1(3)
A person shall not create or cause the emission of any loud and unnecessary noise (a) from a vehicle or any part of it, or (b) from any thing or substance that the vehicle or a part of the vehicle comes into contact with.
Although the decibel levels above are specific to motorcycles, ALL vehicles are subject to noise laws as per Sections of the Traffic Safety Act and City Bylaw 5590.
As of February 24, 2023 the fine for violation of this bylaw is $1000.00. -
I'll plead ignorance to the bylaw since I don't live there lol.Last edited: Apr 23, 2023
Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Although its a good bylaw because nobody wants to listen to straight piped Civics. When I lived in town I used to hate getting woken up by them. Being woken up by a well tuned Duramax/Cummins/Powerstroke or straight piped jakes never bothered me at all.

I’m surprised the EPA hasn’t been going after the victims for having a vehicle with their emissions equipment removed lolJoeyJunk Thanks this.

I dont think so. Plenty of other states like AZ,TX,NM for example have great burritos and cheaper too.

Good point, but the government is very two faced when it comes to this and other issues. A good example is how the government mandates all this emission junk on everyone else, but brand new GSA trucks ( F350, F450) where I work on a military base have their DEF systems turned off and disabled. Funny how they can get away with it, but you cant.

No money in chasing down low life thieves.JoeyJunk Thanks this.

Possible. Depends on the state and inspector. Ive seen a bunch of guys in 1 tons hauling RV's that are deleted. I go into CA with a deleted truck all the time. Never had an issue.
