I understand all that, but even after 30 + years of my own small fleet. I set cruise on my VW diesel at 68 and saw the same trucks over and over again. Keeping that left door shut and strolling seems to be a lost idea to some. But glad I am out of it now. Just keep the store shelves stocked.
Current rates are now below fleet operating costs! It's official!

Jed2009 Thanks this. -
That's nothing new I've heard people say that same thing for 25 years. And it's funny because I've got days where I can roll 400 or 500 miles without stopping. Then like a couple of weeks ago I was chugging more water than usual, on a tight schedule running thru the night trying to stay awake and not be late to an automated Target DC, and had to hit a ramp every 50 miles it seemed like to take a whizz. It was also just to walk around the truck and wake up. I passed the same trucks again and again and again. I bet they figured the same as you about the left door. Not every trip is like that but stuff happens.

I've heard those frequent stops get worse as you get older, but cannot confirm this.

Lol yeah probably so along with reading glasses, back aches and other fun stuff.
PPLC, Vampire, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
He’ll get the same amount as others, don’t forget I’m a cheap owner … so he will get a dollar, most likely the one that I found in the gutter the other day.
Seriously he gets a percentage of anything we get out of the company. I have a couple drivers who are making good coin because they helped find work. -
If I didn’t drink a half gallon of coffee before noon and a half gallon of water in the afternoon……..and didn’t have to dispatch my own truck (insurance certs, rate confirmations etc.), I could keep my door shut for 500 miles at a time!
ETA: I pass the same trucks several times a day.PPLC, Vampire and rollin coal Thank this. -
Yeah those are super easy for you guys,. Sounds like a really good set up.Vampire and God prefers Diesels Thank this.

Another thing that’s making this downturn take longer to recover is all this Covid money that was distributed over the last two years and everyone is sitting on it and saying it’s going to bottom this week , oh wait it’s going to bottom next week etc.. so it’s gonna be a long Cold War with the rates I’m afraid until everyone is flat broke and either has to go drive a truck for a company or get out of trucking all together. Just imagine we were hero’s during Covid and now it’s back to whales sh#t again, bah who needs truckers! I am one of the few that believes Carter (a democrat) messed up when he deregulated the trucking industry, we need the right regulations for Frieght rates and Not the environment regulations that they are imposing on us now.
