Lol last year I saw a dump truck at my local Volvo dealer that has been sitting for over 1.5 years at their lot, because they couldn't get a part from overseas. Blamed everything on Covid
So I get the truck back from the shop, and EGR cooler failing?

Blows my mind how anyone is buying new trucks for 200k+ with this BS going on. I've never had to wait more than a weekend for parts for my old pre emission cat powered 95 W9 even through Covid.

No it ain’t, it is very smart to have proper funding to keep in business. There are things that can’t be put on hold and if you buy a truck, run with a thin margin all the time without putting something away, they you will become one of the ~85% failure.
I don’t make this crap up, but it is just a fact of this business and to be prepared for it from the start is just part of it being in business.
I am surprised how many will take the word of the dealer instead of asking about proof of a problem. Most parts departments won’t even see if another dealer will have a part in stock, and many just hire parts changers who guess at a problem. -
Should had bought a Volvo. Sorry this is happening to you as this is no way to go out of business. Been through it myself and it sucks. -
Man that is one messed up shop. Would you post that shop on here so others can stat clear of it? I hate shops like that and will tow my truck home if need be to get it fixed before messing with some shop like that.Vampire, JoeyJunk, Big Road Skateboard and 1 other person Thank this.

oof 100%. I had a breakdown on the road and had to use a random shop and they told me the part was at least 3 days out if not a week. Called up my parts guy from my home shop and he found the part in stock 1 hour away.Vampire, Siinman, ducnut and 1 other person Thank this.

A fairly local municipality had one of their dump truck in the local Freightliner shop for an engine miss.
Not sure where he got my #, but called and asked if we could look at it. Freightliner had had the truck 8 weeks, replaced lots of parts, to the tune of 17k$.
Finally Freightliner told them the ECM wad the issue, and they couldn't program it, so they would have to get it fixed elsewhere.
My shop was a 1/2 mile from Freightliner. Wrecker brought it in, fired up the truck. It did have a hard miss, and smoke. Hmm...
Cylinder cutout done and smoke quit with #3 cut. Pulled valve cover and rockers. #3 had a valve about 1/4" higher than the others.
Literally 30 minutes after the wrecker dropped it off, and we knew what the issue was.
That was Doggett Freightliner Van Buren, AR

They basically decided they had milked this poor guy for as much as they wanted to and needed the bay to milk another poor guy...
Just invented a problem that they could claim is not possible for them to fix in order to get the truck out of the shop.
Shameless.Siinman and Opendeckin Thank this.
