Here are the trucks I've driven in my 3yr career as a driver; 2000 Intl 9400, 9900i, 2007 Western star, and now I'm in a 2008 Pete 389. Of all the trucks I've had I'd have to pick the Western Star as my fav. It had the most room inside and real wood cabinets (not cheap plastic) and a 82in sleeper! Only problem with it was the darn green motor... average 5.0mpg.I'd sooner go with a CAT or an ISX if I could do it again. And that mileage is not just cuz the way I drove. I know a guy with a lowmax with the same 515 Detroit and he's getting no better. Also I'm now getting 6.2mpg out of my C15 550 CAT in my Pete.

simplyred1962 Betty Boop, One Bodacious Babe!!!
We've had our 2007 Western Star now for almost 4 years.
As the ride-along wife, I LOVE the spaciousness of the sleeper, but hubby is less than thrilled with the Mercedes engine. It has trouble pulling hills, especially when heavy. It also has problems with the fuel lines breaking...now THAT was a terrible mess!! AND, an expensive repair/tow bill!!

Of the trucks I have driven, I like the Star the most but the mechanics hated them, too long to wait to get parts and the 2004 Detroit engines were sporadic. The last one I drove would run with the 525/1850 N-14 backed with an 18 speed and it had a great 13 speed.
I wish I had it back.
It was a fleet truck, not nearly as nice as the O/O trucks I have looked at. -
Good thing about Western Star is they have the best ground clearance of any truck which is great for off road. Other thing is like KW and Pete you can still order a custom truck. You want tri-axle drive with planetary drive axles, quad frame with 2 front steering drive axles and a railroad hitch on the front? You got it. Get that from Volvo!

Not sure if it is just me or I am biased since I own a western star but I have noticed that of all the trucks I have gotten into the western star has one of the nicest/comfortable interior for the driver, compared it to my buddies Columbia chassis and his looked like a cheap American car, just all plastic and out of place but again not sure if that's cuz I own a western or not
