I was running with a company hand once. He made the comment that he would never be an owner operator. He said when he gets to the end of his rope for whatever reason, he wants the ability to go home, get on the phone and say "hey-- your truck is blocking my driveway---send someone to come and get it" In the back of my mind I always thought that driver made a good point. There is a lot of stress in this owner operator game.

 

I know the horse has left the barn, but maybe this will help you in the future. Great West has tow-coverage in their policies. You only have to pay a $250 deductible any time you get your truck towed. I busted my clutch linkage in Barstow, CA and had to get towed 145 miles to Vegas. I only paid $250. Just the tow coverage itself is worth going with Great West. From what I understand, they are also the best trucking insurance company out there.

 

I would also add that if you decide to get another truck, either buy a brand-spanking new one or buy a pre-emissions Freightliner. Definitely no used EMISSIONS TRUCKS.
