Today I backed in next to some rocket scientist that thought 2 straps over a skid loader was sufficient.

It was one of my regulars like I assume @AModelCat ’s place might be where I just back up to the gate and they come out with a forklift. After the guy snatched the pallet off my wagon we just looked in sheer amazement at the aforementioned idiot.

I would’ve grabbed a pic but somebody was waiting to get in there.

Well he avoided the 11' bridge, no he still took another no truck street, and not truck route. But he did not hit the bridge.

Hooking to the rails is perfectly legal. Straps can be inside or outside. The first thing you quoted is the “handbook” not the actual regulations. The handbook is outdated and contradictory to the actual regulations.

For a citation to be issued the officer has to cite a specific regulation. The regulation stating securement devices must be inside the rail was rescinded in 2006.

Probably running under a 15’ tall annual permit. Once you get off the major highways, it’s hard to find bridge heights. You can request a route, but that kind of defeats the purpose of an annual.

No pictures but drove by a nice W900 pulling a van trailer today loaded with these, he obviously slammed on the brakes at the traffic light on US30 in Columbia City, Indiana and they busted through the nose of his trailer. His truck was angled towards the right, wouldn't be surprised if some 4 wheeler darted over right at the last moment to be in front and he tried to avoid hitting them, if so, I hope he jumped out and pulled them out of the car then beat the mercy out of them... I'm a frequent flyer on this route, happens all the time...

Wondering maybe his trailer didn't have those posts for hooking straps in, them load bars they sell at the truckstop wasn't gonna work anyway, not sure if the straps would anyhow?

I haul them occasionally, next time im X strapping and building bulk head, to be sure.
