How long does the dps hold onto a transaction when getting your cdl?
I've been trying to get my cdl back since August 2021 (long story). When I initially got my permit, I paid the fee for my cdl (based on how much time was left on my class c before it expired). Does that transaction stay in play until you get your cdl? I just recently (finally) passed all my tests and am going tomorrow to the dps to get my license. Just trying to figure out if I'm going to have to pony up the money for that fee again, or if I'm still good. Being it's Sunday, I can't call them and ask, so I'm asking you guys. If it helps, I'm in Texas. Thanks.
A clarifying edit that may make more sense:
In November of 2021, I applied for my cdl. It's $97 here in Texas, and because I had just renewed my class c the previous January, I only had to pay around $65. It's been a long money pit of a journey, but I finally managed to get into the local cdl school here that does 3rd party testing, and passed all my tests Friday. Since I've already applied and paid for my cdl, albeit 18 months ago, what are the chances I'll have to pay for it again?

Do you have receipt of some sort ?
tscottme Thanks this. -
There will be some fees involved. Transfer and reissue of a new license card. They may also extend the expiration date. Do you have to take a skills test? These would all have some fee for them. Some credit of prior payment may be applied to the transaction. Shouldn’t be very much. Probably just the very basic fees, like a license renewal. It will likely be at the CDL rate, that should be listed on the website.

It seems that you should have been charged $25.00 for a CDL learner's permit, good for 180 days. After you pass the driving test, it would seem that you would then pay $97.00 for your license that expires in 8 years. Seeing as you paid that already, perhaps they will charge you for 2 permits. The only Clear answer you will get is by going in.
Driver License Fees | Department of Public Safetytscottme and snowmantrucking101 Thank this. -
Not everyone will know what DPS means. I lived in Texas and know it means Dept of Public Safety, but most states call it Highway Patrol and they often have important jurisdiction over driver license records. It's like DMV. In many states that means Dept of Motor Vehicles MANY states call it something completely different and may not recognize the initials that seem obvious to people in other states. CA, NY, MA, PA seem always to have some special department or weird arrangement for everything so their citizens have to memorize new initials.

Texas is screwed up in that you have to go to a DPS office for drivers license issues. Vehicle registrations are handled by the counties. When a person first moves to Tx and goes to get their drivers license and vehicles changed over it can be a real pitaBean Jr. Thanks this.
