N14 cam timing?? How important and how to?

The Cummins parts catalogue calls for a 3068473 gasket which is 0.032" thick.
It also calls for a plain key.
The engine was factory rated at 370 to 475 HP.mile marker 27 and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -

Yes That should work. The original gaskets measured 0.027" they would probably have compressed a bit.

If you know the history of it then sure, you can just put the same gaskets back in
If it's been rebuilt who know if they did it right and timed it correctly. My engine was 'inframed' by a shop before I bought it. After it blew up I rebuilt it and found that the gaskets were thicker than they needed to be, making the timing too advanced. I don't know if that was because they didn't time it correctly or if replacing the cam and rebuilding the followers changed the thickness neededOxbow Thanks this. -
