One of the most important lessons I ever learned was that whether the task is brain surgery, building nuclear bombs, making a Swiss watch, flying a spaceship normal people can learn to do it. Not everybody as the same talents but EVERY task is a simply matter of learning all of the steps to a successful goal. In every activity there are people that do very well and others that do not. Find out what are the steps those that do well at the task are following and what rules-of-thumb they use and you can learn that task. ANY task. In the ancient days they had "paint by number" kits. It would be a box of paints and a background surface with a drawing outlined on it. You would take the included paints, each with a different number, and fill-in the designated areas on the background that are labeled with the appropriate number. Eventually after you filled in all of the areas with the intended paint color you had a painted picture.

For any task there is a paint by numbers process to learn the task or to learn each step of the very complicated tasks. In the process of painting by numbers and being around real "painters" you learn to think and see and make decisions like the experts "painting the picture".

You, my friend, are very optimistic and sickeningly idealistic. It's kind of infectious, but I'm also a bit nauseated.... Frankly, the world needs more positive thinkers, like yourself.

    tscottme Thanks this.

Thank you, I think. I'm usually called cynical far more often than optimistic. I don't think MOST people give a darn about doing a good job. I think the careless and reckless driving of MOST people on most roads is how MOST people are about most things in life. They say they want to be safe, but they don't act more safely. They say they want to know how to handle money, but they don't DO the things that would let them better handle their money. They Say they want to be healthier, but they don't DO the things that would make them more healthy.

I'm a Christian. I know how the circus ends. I also know that if you want to improve something, or learn something you can, but not by waiting for skill or knowledge to be pushed into your ears by someone else. MOST people in MOST areas are like a defiant toddler with their arms crossed waiting for the world, their boss, or someone else to make their life better with no help from the grumpy toddler. Then MOST people will blame that boss, the world, or someone else when that cleverly devised plan doesn't make them the success they feel they deserve.

There is not an area of life someone cannot learn more about or do better. You don't have to be one of the top 10% in a task or area of knowledge to get big benefits. Just showing up ON TIME and willing to learn will instantly push you into the upper-half quickly, maybe the top 30%. People coming out of school recently and working a first job, maybe forever, have a hard time just doing that. They expect to have grandfather's estate on day one of an entry-level job. In school they expect to either be a master of the subject on day one or they declare the whole subject impossible for those that weren't born with all the wisdom in talent already inside them. People want comfortable excuses for doing/thinking what they were going to do or think anyway in MOST cases.
