I have a Metal Supermarket a few miles away for supplies. Bigger projects or specific items you email your list and they reply with a quote. Then call them up and pay. Order is usually ready in a few hours or next day. They also have a cut room with the odds and ends leftover from other orders. If you have the time and not too choosey, dig around in there and find what you need then pay for it by the pound right then and there.

I set back the frame about 3 inches from the back of the cab. Me personally, I wouldn't trust rivnuts, which is probably what your air line slider is attached to. Looking at your photo, I'd guess there's a vertical hat channel behind those double rows of rivets. Of course verify once you get under the upholstery. I drilled my holes in line with the edges (should be in line with the rivets on yours) so the bolts go thru the part flush with the skin and not the raised "hat" part of the channel. Then the short piece of angle on the back to spread the load a little more. Mine just had a seam, not rivets. So I had to rely on measuring off something visible on both sides to hit the mark.

Since you have rivets, be mindful of that when positioning anything to avoid setting on top of one. I couldn't get around that with my bottom mounts, which were 1-1/2 x 1/4 flat and needed to go on top of one or two. I marked the rivet positions and reamed out a divot with a 1/2 bit in my drill press to make the steel lay flat on it.

Well I decided to go with aluminum found a local welder gonna cost under $250. Reason for aluminum won't rust its light weight snd strong.

Here you go brother. I had an excellent experience with it. New york city holes approved easy to install. I did it with 6 bolts and 6 lock nuts and that thing never gave me any issues

Well my first welder keeps blowing it off excuse after excuses and doesn't communicate. 2nd guy never got back to me. 3rd guy says it's about 450 for him to build it out of iron instead of aluminum. Might try to buy the cheap harbor freight welder and go to town lmao

    Where are you located?
Or more accurately, you get through northern indiana much?

I can probably make it for 250$ at my dads shop this weekend if i can get some parameters to design around and be allowed to design around scavengeable "scrap" material.

That said, doing it only out of welded aluminum has its own potential drawbacks, because it will be subject to a lot of shock forces, you have to build it a bit thicker than you might at first expect, too thin and the aluminum has a tendency to crack at the weld sites

Once in awhile I do just never know with me as its power only and forced dispatch.
Didn't think about that with aluminum. Don't mind steel just think $450 is steep when I can get the mats for steel for less then $100 from lowes

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Agreed, but on steel at 450$, just buy the 60$ amazon one and reinforce it till desired

    Rideandrepair and Siinman Thank this.
