that’s the move! It only sucks when you gotta swap out a tire in 20 degree weather in sandals, shorts, and a t shirt for no other reason that choosing to be dumb that morning by not dressing right

or the worse, swapping a tire out when have the flu with gnarly body aches

There was a guy on here long time ago that carried dang near a whole toolbox on his truck. I remember he posted doing an ISX turbo in a parking lot.

Never heard of that either. Ever.
I've changed my own semi tires on the road.
I carried a spare, jack, tools and torque wrench.
It did make me run out of hours...
    8 hour nap fixed that.

As part of your maintenance records for your carrier profile, you have to document that the tires were torqued, and a retorque also occured. But it does not specify who does it, or require a invoice from a shop.

Read an article in Landline years ago about a BS Law against it in NJ. Don’t think I’d let that stop me. Best to repair anything if possible ASAP, especially if on the Shoulder. 20 Ton bottle jack is handy to have and doesn’t take up much room, can be used as a vice. Clamping something between the jack and ICC bumper. A small 6 ton is a handy tool to have too.

I don't know if it's illegal, I'd have to say, a trooper will demand a service truck with proper warning devices. Years ago I changed my own tire once, Daytons, spare on the trailer, jack and handle in the cab, in 20 minutes I was on my way. Soaking wet, but on my way. I did get off the highway on an exit, however. Freaked the boss out too, he said, "you changed a tire? Nobody ever did that". Today, however, you'd be insane to do ANYTHING on the shoulder these days, and besides, the truck doesn't have a big enough compressor to get Budd lugnuts off. Inch drive impact, minimum. Some may have been on for years. If it's not a steer, I'd limp along the shoulder to an exit and call a service truck.
