Steer Axle hub keeps overheating R/S

Unless the bearings were severely over tightened or something was wrong possibly the hub cap is not deep enough and touching the end of the spindle I would be thinking it’s a break problem.
Pictures might help identify the issue.
Who’s been doing this work?

 

Is that rim messed up? Might be causing it if bent maybe?

 

I'd have the spindle checked out good. Could have been messed up after the first time. Bearings spinning on the spindle would be a guess

 

As hot as that looks from that picture .. I would do exactly like @lester said ..
And I'd be doing it now you got some sort of issue going on in that hub causing those bearings to be getting that hot to cook the oil

 

Years ago my 2000 379 was eating outer wheel bearings on the steer axle. About l set a year. It got hot like yours did once too. I finally bought 2 new front hub assemblys. Never had another issue. I suspect the casting was off enough that that bearing surfaces were out of alignment. That will beat the daylights out the bearing set.

 

Check that spindle real good and replace that hub.

 

Not much there. Brakes, drum, spindle, bearings, and a hub.

Brakes should have created other symptoms. I've never seen a spindle cause that, but it's possible.

I usually go back to installer error when it comes to bearings. Maybe a race isn't seated well? Hub not concentric?

Fleetpride has these hubs on sale this month. While I don't use preset hubs personally, they are idiot proof. These come with both bearings, sleeve, and seal. Not sure if a nut is included.

Install, torque, and done. No adjusting bearings.
