Hello guys, I know this is a old post.
But I can't seem to find enough posts on this. I've got the same problem.
Have 2020 Pete isx 565 performance, 150 k miles on it , ran outta fuel 4 months ago, used started fluid (I know it's bad for these engines) cuz it won't just start, now every morning it shuts off first start after 2 seconds, then 2-3 tries with lot of rounds will start up and runs just fine all day long. Had Cummins done full service on it 2 months ago, problem vanished for a month then came right back, no faults or codes at All. Last couple of days I turn ignition on and let it sit for 3-4 minutes and starts up just fine. Seems like fuel issue? Anyone? -
the newer cummins u should not ever have to use starting fluid in a situation like that... the fuel system is primed when you turn the key on... cycle to key a couple times.. it should prime most of that air out ... if it fires up and is running rough and there is air in the system that you cant get out by the self priming method.. cummins has a proprietary tool that can hook to the compucheck valves located on the fuel filter housing and once you hook that up and cycle the key it will prime all the air out of the system... but you really shouldnt need to do that unless there is major priming problems and majoy air in the system... read what goodysnap posted at the beginning of this thread..you are most liekely sucking air thru the system somewhere.... if it only does it at startup then the truck is losing prime during sitting... which could be something as simple as a fuel filter o ring was doubled up or small leak letting air in when its sitting an extended period of time.

I noticed I have same problem 2006 international w/isx 565 starts runs for 3 seconds then dies, starts right up runs fine afterwards. No fault codes . Truck is due for service next month don’t use it much, if I find anything I’ll post it .

Does your lift pump turn on for 2 minutes when you turn the key on?
-
I’m putting it in the shop right now , and it did start and die today lol, I’ll post what we find

After we serviced the truck, I haven’t had any issues with starting and dying. During the service I inspected the fuel lines, I found a small leak under the lift pump and we obviously changed the fuel filters, I think one of the filters had a bad gasket or was partially packed up and in combination with the small leak under the lift pump was causing my problem. I’ve started the truck at least 20 times since then without a problem. I have not fixed the leak yet fyi it is very small, getting that repaired this week. Sorry I know that’s pretty basic but at least in my case that seemed to be the problem. So I would swipe your finger under your lift pump and see if it’s wet and change your filters to start .

Update:the lift pump mounting bolts were just loose enough to drip a small amount of fuel . To explain it better not a drip it was a seep
