Past winter temperature info makes it look like the St Louis area has mild winters with brief periods of freezing and temps mostly in the 40's or even higher.
    Is that true?
It looks like it's pretty far north, I would like to hear from drivers who operate in the area.

    Yes it’s true

Similar weather to somewhere like Tennessee and Western KY. I have no scientific explanation why it’s warmer than a lot of areas at the same latitude

Last winter was pretty mild. Never know what next one will be like.

Usually a good ice storm or 2 every year that creates many traffic jams on i70 between st louis and kc

You should never bank on ANY sort of pervious weather pattern

I lived in the STL area for 3 years, be prepared for plenty of ice. My parking lot turned into an ice rink for most of the winter.

In my experience Missouri can get hammered but it cleans up pretty fast.
Always icy and wet and slick .
I just off the road in those conditions.

They get a whole lot less snow than Ironwood, Michigan!

Seriously though, the winters there are reasonably mild compared to many other areas of the country. That's not to say there isn't snow or ice. However, it melts off pretty quickly after the storm is over in most cases. You will get the occasional time where the best choice is to park it, but more often than not, by the next day, and sometimes within just a few hours, the roads are in good shape again.

As a disclaimer I grew up on the south shore of lake superior, so my definition of a mild winter is a little different than someone from the deep south.

That area is crazy for ice storms. I dont care what the weather patterns' from last year looked like. The weather changes all the time and nothing is in the norm anymore.

Been in MO most my life around KC area and drive around STL as well. Mo it can be beautiful one day and snowing or freezing rain the next day. We have some mild winters and we have some major winters as well. Similar to rain as we can have some dry summers or can have record flooding. We get the best and worst in the same week.
