So, it's been a while since I've posted, and I apologize. I've been a bit busy; as I put the truck on the road May '22, and between repairs, a new baby, and a house fire, i've been just a smidge busy. Some of the chaos of moving has finally died down some, so I figured it was time for an update.
The last update was that my rears went out. Well, that got fixed. All in all, I'd say I can't really complain. Bought the truck in '19, and since then, i've put about $20k into it for repairs. Wait, just remembered. Add $1.4k to that, as I had to replace 2 tires last week.
At any rate, with the money I'm able to make now, even with owning my own truck, and being responsible for the maintenance, I feel I am better off not driving someone else's truck.
Bearing that in mind, I will likely go back into someone else's truck for a short time, while i have the engine rebuilt. IIRC, just under 840,xxx miles on it, but I'd like to beef it up some since it's a smaller engine.
But for last year, putting it on the road in May, and taking probably a total of 2-3 months off, with 1-2 rounds to Chicago a week, I grossed $64k in about 4-5 months.
My total weight with a 48' open deck, and full tanks, is 28k/ That is nice for when they load pays on the hundred weight. Not so much a flat rate. Holy crap, quick story time.
1 load from a scrap yard last year, from Chicago back to Ohio. Paid $1,100 (i think). Not the greatest rate, but not the worst. First time at this yard, and never had a problem with scrap cars before, so I thought nothing of it. When I get to the receiver, I see the weight slip says my load was close to 54k. I was not happy. Told dispatch if they pulled that again, I was not going back there; they didn't send me back. Fast forward a few months, and they send me back. I spoke with whoever was running the yard about the previous load, and they gave me a line up crap - basically tried to bully me into taking it since it was a friday. I told dispatch I was going to DH home. A company driver was there when I was talking to the yard and heard everything i said. Turns out they only put 32k on the other guy.
Were I a company driver, i'd've gotten in a lot of trouble for that. But hey, I'm paying for the fuel. Owner wasn't happy, but wasn't really anything he could do.
But, that's my update.

Is the truck in your avatar the truck you're talking about?

You must LOVE that truck to spend that kind of money into it. Over 21k already into it ? And it’s only a 2 axle ? And it’s a “White” ? I have a 1979 Kenworth k100 3 axle, 21k would make it look like a show truck. Had the KW since 1984. It’s been parked since 2007. Anyways….. goodluck with your project.
RubyEagle, wore out, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
It's my first truck, and the first $12k was spent over 4 years. It's a working truck, why wouldn't I love it?

What happened to your rears? Did you replace them or had them repaired?

The front rears went out, so i had a rebuilt rear put in. That was $1,400 for the parts, then the labor

Thats a quite decent price, did front differential last september and the parts cost was 2500$ with my laborgekko1323 Thanks this.
