If you're talking about Sierra Sid's in Sparks at exit 19, yeah, they did have good food many years ago.

That little room in the back of the bar brought in a lot of dollars. Smoking was allowed in there. But since smoking in a workplace was illegal in California, the bartender was not allowed to go into the room while working. So the bartender would only bring the drinks to the door of the room. The drivers would even empty the ashtrays, wipe down the tables and once I saw a guy running the vacuum cleaner in there. Was a really unique situation.

Yeah, but they were one of the first truckstops to charge for parking. Also, didn't eat much at truckstops in Reno; every casino had a GREAT restaurant that served good food cheap......if you could get past all the slots and gaming tables on your way to the restaurants!

I thought the Pilot in Laredo was the first truck stop that ever charge for parking. Thank God they finally stopped a few years ago when all those other truck stops got built in the area.

I don't know for sure, but i think the Walt Whitman T/S in Philly charged Ben Franklin to park his buggy there.

Not sure about that; it was a bit before my time. When I was driving, a FEW urban stops started charging $5/day, just to keep the riff-raff out. There WAS a 76 that was just outside of San Fran which charged $10/day, which we all thought was outrageous, but then they jacked it up to $15 last time I went past there...

I drove by the Petro in Girard, Ohio, today. It would appear that they still have an Iron Skillet.
