Stupidity is rampant in all industries. -
I don't know if you're being facetious or serious.
That's the way I secure them, as a matter of practice, but the first two in the front, are there if there is no bulkhead.
cke and jamespmack Thank this. -
Serious as a heart attack. People often quote the way they were taught or company policy as regulations. That’s not always the case

Wise old man once said, just use all chains you got.CAXPT Thanks this.

With the equipment rings in the floor. A lot of our 4 axle vans are rigged for security. Either equipment rings or tracking for cleats.cke Thanks this.

Depending on the size of the chain (5/16 or 3/8) this may “technically” be enough. But, no one with a brain in their head would ever get mad if you do more.
Me, personally, a 43k coil loaded suicide would get one chain for every 10k pounds and every partial thereafter, plus one for myself, plus another for the family. Totaling 7 chains.
Some people may say it’s overkill or that I’m scared or whatever but it keeps me safe, the people around me safe and if one chain/binder fails I at least know I still have plenty securement left.
CAXPT Thanks this. -
This was my first coil 46k (and the fourth load overall
)
I used five 3/8 g70 chains (and would probably have used more if I could find enough adequate space with more experience) and one strap over the top. At the first stop I added two cross straps over the top, just in case. The "suicide" coil name says to me all. Don't even want to think about the amount of energy this thing has at 65 mphcke Thanks this. -
For future reference, you might want to put that strap on the outside of the tarp, as a LEO may get curious if you were using that securing through the middle of the coil, rather than on the outside. I can see the edge protector you have up there, but if you're going to use a strap over a suicide coil, I'd suggest putting it outside the tarp so you don't have to unwrap it to prove it's not an unprotected edge strap through the middle.

What’s wrong with a strap through the middle of a coil?
