Hello moderators and members, I am just looking to introduce myself. I started in trucking in 1996. I worked as a company driver for 1.5 years, then bought 2 trucks and worked leased to a motor carrier for 9 years. My company did well but I sold my trucks in 2006 due to the rising cost of fuel and tolls in N.J., NYC, area. I then worked for a cement company for 1 year as I tried to obtain an overseas contract. In 2008 I left for Iraq as an over the road convoy driver hauling ammo and haz-mat material for the US Army stationed out of Taji, Iraq. I did 139 missions out side the wire without accident, incident or injury. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

-Yes, its more or less true, however, you work on average 100 plus hours a week, 7 days a week. You still pay social security and medicare taxes. The requirement for federal income tax exemption is that you spend at least 330 out of 365 days out of the country, then you are exempt up to $91,400. After that you pay at your new tax bracket. If you are a resident of a state with state income tax, you will also have to pay that.simplyred1962, snowbunny, Ducks and 3 others Thank this.
