Yes that’s great but you missed the point really not interested on your how great I am story you have..Some trucking jobs aren’t jobs I agree there a lifestyle true but those that are lifestyles are lonely and honestly not much of a lifestyle.I would much rather be home through out the week and weekends going to the gym, playing softball going to church seeing family and friends then spending a lifestyle sleeping in truck stops and dealing with traffic and hopping I’ll get unloaded soon that’s the majority of the lifestyle.

    Agreed

Most flatbed and RGN haulers don’t have to deal with that as bad.

a lot of times it’s regional work and your shipper and receiver are very happy to see you arrive and you usually aren’t waiting too long .

Fuel tanker delivery is local , pays good .

but you gotta be able to leave the phone in your pocket all day .
    And I’m guessing 99% of people under 25 can’t do that .

most municipal govts are outright begging for people to apply for their vacant jobs .

public works , fire depts , every position .
And if you have fallopian tubing you will check the diversity box for the EEOC quota and go right to the front of the line for hiring .

No, you missed the point. Not every driver has the same interests you have. Your chosen lifestyle is great for you, but that doesn't mean it's great for everyone.
Don't be so judgemental with those that have a different opinion or chosen lifestyle than you.
Explain how my response to the thread is a "how great I am" response.

Welding is a great skill but a lot of people glamorize it that don’t really know the ropes (I worked my way up from iron worker to welding tiny engine parts for an aerospace company)

Both are tig done on stainless tubing.

Every weld was visually, dye penetrant, X-ray tested. Job only paid $18/hour for TIG.

Welding pay sucks if you don’t own equipment, or you don’t stay for 10 plus years at the same place. Some places are good and will pay enough to support a family, but those jobs are pretty hard to find, those welders dont share

Dang those are some sexy welds!

Pipeline is where the money is in welding. Easy $100k+ a year. 9ayabjn1jhz61.jpg

hahaha it’s funny but true. Only problem is 90% of the pipeline welders can’t keep the money.

When I got hurt and was in the hospital my son started trying to get his CDL so he could take over for me, I tried to talk him out of it, he was already certified in alit of HVAC stuff but wanted to try getting his CDL. It took him about a month to figure out trucking was t for him. I have been pretty much local my whole life but almost every job is at least a 12 hour day. He didn't like that, and after a couple months went back to finish his certifications in HVAC. Now two years later he is a tech and likes it. Pretty much hates the on call crap but besides that likes it, makes good money and is pretty good at it. Part of me still wishes he had at least obtained his CDL though, it's always something to fall back on. He is working on his commercial certifications right now and will make more than me as an owner op after he gets that done

The only problem with DG is that it doesn't pay enough. They only pay like $11.50/hr around here to start, where as a typical dishwashing job pays like $15-16 and you get free meals usually. There is a lot of big corporation nonsense too with a company like that. I did it once for a few months when I just needed something to do for a bit during the winter no matter how lame it was. (and it was)
