I have little faith in flushing... What is a coolant filter? Just kidding. Late model truck has none. Early does- Cat. And I couldn't get filters for it locally some time last year so I bought a case of the blue Cat filters off Ebay... Think I will just change the element and be done with it. Thanks.

Hi, you need to change the Oil Cooler Core and the Oil Thermostat. I had the same issue and by changing both parts it fixed the problem.

Hi Kevin, I had the same problem and I changed the Oil Cooler Core and the Oil Thermostat and doing tbis it resolved this issue.Otr Traveler Thanks this.
-
Which thermostat did you use, the 215 or the 235?
-
The best thing you can do is get your vin# and go to the dealer and order the oil thermostat and oil cooler core. I dont want to give you the wrong part number. I saw how the job was done. I spend over 14 hrs and helped him with anything that I can. When mechanic gets to where the oil cooler core is you also can change the oil T stat. Also when you go to the dealer dont forget to get all the seals and rings. The dealer should let you know which kit you should buy.

Don't rule out Cummins. My idiot dealer swore up and down I had dual cooler elements. Quickserve said otherwise. I went to Cummins, and sure enough, it only took one element. International also claimed there were no coolers to be had anywhere in the country. Cummins had three stainless steel coolers on their shelf.Otr Traveler and Oxbow Thank this.

The stainless steel are for engines 450 HP and under and the gold colour aluminum is the higher HP. Also who ever is doing the job be very careful when cleaning the block and housing surface as debris can get in the oil passage and do major damage, just last week had a truck towed in that they just changed the cooler and T-stat, ran for 2 hours and took out # 1 rod and crank shaft.
God prefers Diesels and Oxbow Thank this. -
Thanks for the responses I learn a lot just reading others mechanical issues and what they have found out to solve it!
