Good. One of our guys who doesn’t give a crap got popped for not having the eld manufacturer info in the truck, and instructions on how to put it in roadside mode and transmit elogs to the officer. He cared after that.

Ever since ELD's became a thing (and especially since the mandated use of ELD's) a driver had to have the ELD instruction manual ON PAPER in the cab of the vehicle. Downloaded manuals to a phone or other electronic device don't count. This from a Montana Motor Carrier Services officer (in 2020). He was surprised to find that I did have a printed manual for the ELD (Qualcomm) I was using at the time. He said that a lot of Canadian truckers didn't have the printed manual because it was not yet mandated in Canada, but it had been mandated in the US since Dec 2019 (IIRC). Of course, now that ELD's are mandated in Canada as well as the US you've got to have the printed manual or instruction sheet no matter what country you're from.

Yep. Tried to tell him that over and over. Should have heard him cry when he got the fine and the company said it’s on you.

What a money racket. I can’t even imagine how many trucks there is running in Alberta that aren’t on ELD (Not Required) and we’re collectively surviving.

100% wrong. Every since the ELD came out, electronic manual is fine. It's not even a FMCSA thing, it's another federal law that basically says is any regulation that requires documents, an electronic version has to be accepted. One of the save paper laws passed in congress at various times.
Can the required electronic logging device (ELD) user manual be in digital format? | FMCSA
Question: Can the required electronic logging device (ELD) user manual be in digital format?
Answer: Yes, the required ELD manuals listed in 49 CFR 395.22(h) can be in digital format.
There is also this
Federal Register :: Request Access
§ 390.32 Electronic documents and signatures.
Electronic records or documents. Any person or entity required to generate, maintain, or exchange documents to satisfy requirements in chapter III of subtitle B of title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR 300–399) may use electronic methods to satisfy those requirements.
That said, this is a Canadian forum, and I don't know the regs there. -
Same thing as far as Im aware. However, I believe the malfunctions document and road side inspection document have to be printed in the truck binder. The manual can be on the ELD -
All documents mean just that, all documents.

Only instructions we received was “here use this”. No manual, no card, just figure it out for yourself.
