Why would you falsify your work by not logging in ?
This is an old Yellow way to control their costs. Nothing new
Besides they don't care if they miss pickups or deliveries its part of the One Yellow to shrink their foot print down to a manageable level.
Don't need all the overlap and duplicating of labor and services. ( RDWY comes to mind as to their last merger )
One thing that has been absent from all the company's crying is the number ( They are real good at numbers remember )
how many will loose their employment if ONE YELLOW goes through ?

Siinman, bzinger and buddyd157 Thank this.

It starts with a good idea, which gets results, which then gets replicated and misapplied, which leads to disaster.

Think of it this way - a man is out working in the cold. He notices that having a dram of whiskey when he comes home helps him warm up. Alcohol DOES improve circulation, and once out of the elements can be very effective in warding off the impacts of hypothermia and frost bite. The man starts having a dram every time he comes home. Then he starts having a dram at midday, which makes him feel warm even though it makes his core temperature drop. Pretty soon he's going through a fifth a day and his liver is shutting down. What started as a good idea got overblown and killed him.

Doing metric analysis is good, to a point. The problem is that the low hanging fruit provides such yields the MBAs keep trying to make the system more efficient, and the more efficient a system becomes, the more brittle it is.

In the late 90's UPS figured out it was 'better' to avoid left hand turns. It was more efficient and safer for the driver to go one block up and make three successive right turns, even though it resulted in a longer route. That works in an urban environment, but when UPS tried to apply it out in the far Chicago suburbs it failed miserably. The problem is trying to use a solution to one problem as a solution to ALL PROBLEMS.

I don't know all the numbers so asking the question without looking it up.
(On the surface one can say that we are greedy and spoiled and make outlandish demands. The reality is we make at least $6 per hour less than the next non-union carrier (at least in my area).) So stating this does all this consider all your union dues and benefits with medical and what the company has to pay in taxes as well for you?

They have a nice new terminal in SLC.
Rumor has it they may have trouble selling the old one. Allegedly there was a big diesel spill at some point that may require some clean-up.

    bzinger and Oxbow Thank this.

That terminal that ABF left was a PIE terminal before.
Their were spills before anyone cared.
Make a parking garage out of it just like across the street did. the old Garret /ANR dock

Bill51, Siinman, bzinger and 2 others Thank this.

Yeah I haven’t been to the new SLC terminal yet… bottom of the seniority list haha they usually keep me running around the Sac/ Bay Area. I know they just had 4 road drivers laid off there. At this point I’m just happy to still be working, at least for now
