Unless there is a change of political policies….expect what @D.Tibbitt stated. If you can’t handle that, change your business plan to go in a different direction or go out of business. Look if things are not going to get better you must get more aggressive in your pursuits. If that is too much, leave to to someone else, lease or company drive and leave the business to one’s that are crazy enough to figure this mess out. Either way, I do hope you make it thru all this somehow. I’m making it thru strategy. -And it’s not by playing easy. I gave up on that. So mentally it’s easier for me. I actively look for pain in the butt work. I don’t even bother with easy. I advise you to go look at your self in the mirror and motivate yourself. If you aren’t going to be the best, why even bother. Only losers are 2nd best. Kick a// and take names.
Soooo when do rates get better?

You said you see new people pulling flats, so combine that with a crappy economy and high interest rates and that’s why you didn’t see much of a seasonal uptick.Blue jeans, JoeyJunk, Jubal Early Times and 4 others Thank this.

I have always seen winter being more money if going to mountains. Always gonna be supply vs demand. Nothing new in the market to seeBlue jeans, JoeyJunk, Big Road Skateboard and 2 others Thank this.

I'll be honest I don't deal with the open market but I am constantly watching rates and keeping N eye on things. The worse time I have seen is 2020 during the lockdowns, and that was the year I bought my truck. Flatbed rates really went into the toilet that summer and I installed a wetkit and pulled en dump because of that. While rates right now are not great they are no where near the trash rates of 2020 with no volume and loads going basically no where. From what I have seen over the last 6-10 years winters have always been the $$ months in mn and nd, You eliminate all the southern megas, and all the other guys from down south and run around in the snow and cold and make money as long as the roads don't get closed down and you sit in the middle of north Dakota for a week waiting for crap to open up again. Or you do what guys like me do and run a dedicated power only run into the middle of nd and sit for a week and wait for the roads to open up... Otherwise during the summer there is a lot of competition up here and companies like welfare express come up here and chop the rates

Thought of your comment yesterday when I stopped in Mt. Nebo, WV….

I've been doing my part! I've sat the past two days! Unfortunately there's countless drivers out here willing to haul for fuel money loads I've watched fly off the boards.

I used to park a lot and all it ultimately did was speed up my own demise. I got my first paycheck from the new job today and there's no such thing as recession or slow freight in my future.
