Do you ever take mini vacations, if so where? I have a buddy who lives in Costa Mesa (I live in TX) and I designated my home time there and had a mini 3 day vacation. Now I'm looking for other ideas.
OTR what's your favorite place to take time off other than home?

when i ran the road, i very rarely had "mini vacations" other than the mandatory 8 hour break.
i went to work to earn money, not sit.
when i switched to regional, i'd be back at home on a thursday night, then back out on sunday night.
when i went dedicated, i had saturday and sunday off, go back Monday night
i had regular vacation times, at home, not on the road.Magoo1968, Last Call, Flat Earth Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
At least a few times a month. I've took a few days off in lots of places. Northern California and Oregon coast, lots of western Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, all over Washington.
Finding parking sucks, but I rented a pickup in Mass and hit up the coast of Maine and Vermonts White Mountains
Hiked a bit of tge AT and fished the New River for three days in Virginia.
Had hoped to be spending this weekend camping and floating the Blackfoot in Montana, but gotta work instead.TawcoTruck Thanks this. -
I took my 34s in Flagstaff whenever possible. I also liked Logan, UT or Kanab, UTLast Call, austinmike, TawcoTruck and 1 other person Thank this.

On my "34 hour vacation" would try and go visit somewhere scenic that is pleasant to look at, being based in Utah excluded the beach of course but there were plenty of lakes in the Cache valley area. Or sometimes just finding a place that serves a really good meal can be fulfilling. Anything would beat the usual Flying J buffet.TawcoTruck and tscottme Thank this.

Chicago. The city is a depressing near cyberpunk hellscape but I have a friend there. The i55 truck stop is all time favorite of mineaustinmike, TawcoTruck and dosgatos Thank this.

Every sarcastic, snarky fiber of my being wants to say, "Your mom's house!" but I shall refrain.
Seriously though, I took hometime all over the place. Pick any activity you want to do, and then start googling. If you are into say fly fishing google best places to fly fish. If you want to get more specific and say you run the Midwest a lot, google the best flyfishing in the Midwest.
If it's an unplanned layover, just google things to do near whatever town you are in.
Most areas will have at least one or two interesting things to do or see, and even if the town turns out to be a bust, not much is lost. Just pick a different stop next time.TawcoTruck Thanks this. -
