I interviewed with two companies this week and both offered me a cdl b driver position. I basically accepted a position from company A a couple days ago and interviewed with company B today, who also offered me a position. I told company B that I was interested but needed to think about it and get back to them.
Company A is 30 minutes away, pays $26/hr and that’s about it. It would be driving a reefer truck with early morning start times. Company B pays $27/hr, has a stay on bonus and pays quarterly safety bonuses. When I interviewed at company B they were really laid back and didn’t go through with the BS situational questions and we just talked about the position and what my role would be. Company B also has early start times but they’re closer to where I live and I’d be working in my neighborhood.
my dilemma is I already accepted the position from company A and had to sign a bunch of e-documents, which I believe were for the background check, employer verification and mvr report. My question is, am I still obligated to work for company A, or can I change my mind and withdraw my application? I kinda liked company B better because of the pay, but also the closer proximity to home.
I’m super conflicted because both jobs will give me experience, but company A is basically a corporate environment and company B is family owned. I’m now leaning towards company B but not sure if it’s ok to tell company A thanks but no thanks

Choose who you think will fit you right..you’re not obligated till you get hired so to speak.
Flat Earth Trucker, newhorizions469, Eddiec and 1 other person Thank this. -
You are not obligated to either one. You do what is best for YOU. I can promise you when the shoe is on the other foot and they think they need to let you go because of slow freight or some #### they will do what is best for them without hesitation. Imo sounds like job B is the one but that's just me. You do you.
I was in your situation recently and was in a long drawn out process to get hired at my first choice. Meanwhile my second backup pick hired me and gave me a start date. But choice number one came through and gave me the job. So I called my second pick and let them know as nice as I could I wasn't going to work for them. They understand. It's not a big deal. Some people just don't even show up... at least show some courtesy there.Flat Earth Trucker, Lonesome, Siinman and 4 others Thank this. -
I’m not officially hired until they finish the background check correct? And by that I mean, I’m not an official employee until I’ve actually filled out my w2’s and am going through orientation process?
company A wants the long form for my medical card, which I’m confused about. I have a medical card which I thought was acceptable. What’s the long form? I also have to register with the FMSCA clearinghouse, which I’m guessing every driver has to do? -
You’re not officially hired until you complete everything including orientation…drug clearinghouse you have to register and grant company access to it..long form is all your paperwork to your physical, they need that to unless they send you to get physical.
-
you should go to company C........
do as you wish, HOWEVER, if something should go wrong, with B company..??
you may not be able to reapply at A company, cuz they may not want to go thru the expense of you another time.... -
If company B is serious about the job offer next week it’ll be with the understanding that the position is still open and that I won’t get sacked 6 months from now. I’d ask that they at least be honest and upfront with me, versus just trying to find bodies to fill a position. I still need to think long and hard about this decision. It’s a good problem to have for sureSiinman Thanks this.

You are not hired until you get an employee number, which is 5 min before you get your truck assignment. You can show up to orientation, watch videos all day, go for physical, do road test, meet bossman in person, but are not hired until you get on the payroll.
Flat Earth Trucker, Lonesome, Siinman and 3 others Thank this. -
NO company can say or guarantee anyone about NOT getting sacked at ANY time....
you want unicorns too..???? -
If it were me, I'd take company B.
