This may be as hard as pulling hen's teeth but I would ask to see the contract that has NAAT as a signatory.
There is no mention, that I can find, of O/O’s in the latest carhaul contract which is odd because even when parts of the contract become redundant, such as JCT and Cassens not having O/O's, they're still in the contract.

The older contracts for O/O's was 65% for tractor only and 75% for tractor, headramp and trailer. The company paid all permits, health and welfare and pension, and all damages. They did however tack on some BS per car "ancillary charge" of 2 to $5 and as high as $40 to cover damages. That wasn't in the contract. You were paid as a company driver with that amount was deducted from your truck check.

If you opt-in for Teamster H & W be sure it's C-6 level. Also if you don't work 3 days during the week, your H & W doesn't get paid, and no insurance for that week. You can cover this with a COBRA payment but that's a drawn out deal. I wonder if they have regular contributions paid in regardless of days worked. Back in the day as O/O's we would just log 8 hours a day if we were in the shop all week.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll make it work. Steve Hansen, Mike Riggs, Sarah Amico are all above board in their management style despite all the usual #####, whine and moan, mho.

I won’t be able to show you all the details, but you could probably make a couple phone calls and find them. NAAT is definitely in the National Master Carhaul Agreement which is the reason we are allowed to load where we load. Our Business Agent has been in the Union Carhaul business for 40 years and is clearly very good at what he does. Just like with any new program there will be issues but, we as a group are working through them. The Union and the Company are aware that the initial 8 of us brought 100 something years of Teamster experience and none of us are wet behind the ears. They also realize that we talk to many other experienced carhaulers considering NAAT who are former Teamsters that are now owner ops at Non Union Carriers. There are also many current Teamster Carhaulers who would like to do this, but would only do so if it is a great option. Those people we talk to may be interested in following us if this is done correctly. If it isn’t better than what we had before we won’t recommend others follow us and some of us will definitely leave. The Union and Company are committed to making this work, growing it into a large group of well paid Teamster Represented Carhaul Owner/Drivers. I am optimistic it will happen in due time.

As a former Jack Cooper owner Op, if the contract is anything similar to what I was operating under , you all will do very well. Keep in mind I was in Canada, so we didn’t have a ton of back hauls or different ramps to load out of, but still some of the best money I ever made until this new gig I have

This will be the test if you are fully integrated into the JCT system. Bowling Green, going back to when Allied existed and had the Corvette traffic, Allied never allowed O/O's to load out of there. JCT outside terminal drivers load there all the time but there is never overflow for outside companies.

2 of the Owner Drivers in our group thus far were based in Bowling Green for several years each with Allied and Cooper. They were told Bowling Green was out of the question. I imagine when the Vettes need to go they would rather have a couple guys backhauling that hauled out of there for years before letting some rookie in a 6 pack haul them. One of my close friends who was a top revenue driver in Bowling Green for many years with Allied and Cooper is a non union owner operator currently. He may be coming back to the Union at NAAT if he sees what actually goes on here is what we were promised. I bet they will want these three former Bowling Green drivers helping out when things are crazy busy.

Moore was definitely having financial issues. They broker out some loads. These subcontractors were always complaining of delayed payments. I am one of them. But I don't play with money. When I noticed this, I started nicely hounding them so I wouldn't have a high outstanding invoice for them. Sure enough, I'm owed about 3k while my friends are owed 30k and 15k. We've received communication from Moore mid August and today that they are first trying to collect their outstanding invoices and then they'll see how to pay us. It sounds to me like they were insolvent.
