My company has banned ANY cell phone usage while driving.

My last truck had a Qualcomm that worked while driving. I was driving and got a beep, went to turn the volume down and saw the main screen.

By the way, its not a team truck and no, I didn't send messages while driving. Although, I will admit, it was nice to see the directions while driving.

 

I have run many trucks that the qualcom worked while driving and not one that didn't.

 

All right, pay attention. IT'S A TRUCK, NOT A PHONE BOOTH!!!

Yes, cell phones are nice, and convenient. But, believe it or not, it is possible to get through your day without talking to someone on the phone. I started driving in 1998, and didn't even bother getting a cell phone until 2007. Even then, I refused to give my company my cell phone number. If they needed to contact me, they had the Qualcomm. And I had a record to nail them with, when they tried pulling their regular bull-crap with me.

And yes, staying in contact with the family can be very helpful in dealing with the stress of being a truck driver. However, you get ten hours of off-duty time (unless you split-break, or are driving illegally) that can be used to maintain communication with home base without jeopardizing yourself, or (more importantly in my view) me and my family because your so busy talking on your cell phone that you didn't see that stop light, stop sign, traffic slow down in front of your 40-ton (barely) guided missile! When you are driving, you are at work. Concentrate on being at work!

 

I always sign what ever they want me to sign then do it like I want to do it.Thats why I truck because no one is looking over my shoulder.

 

That's the only way to go!

We used to have to wait for miles and miles sometimes to find a safe spot to pull over and answer the dispatcher's call. Dang shame.

 

I did that too. I remember my dispatcher called me and I had one of those truck bluetooths on and he wrote me up for answering the call while I was driving even though I was using my bluetooth. Then he gave me a warning because I would call him back an hour or two later and I would tell him I had to find a safeplace to park. Im ###### if I do ###### if I dont.

 

I think that depends on the dispatcher and or company. Every truck I had if my truck slightly moved it would lock up until the truck came to a complete stop. My trainer told me that dispatchers are supposed to only allow the qualcomm to be in use while driving if its team drivers but some dont lock em.

 

This is the reason!

Don't blame your company; they're covering themselves. These days it's unwise for anyone operating a truck to be talking on a phone.

Lawsuits, man that's why they want you to sign it!

Also, if you have one of those qualcoms that don't work while moving, there's still a way to read it, but it's REALLY STUPID!

 

its not gonna matter in court whether you signed that letter or not. no one cares. they want you to sign it because if that gets even one driver to avoid talking on the phone theres that much less chance of an accident.

 

Can someone please explain how talking on a hands free bluetooth headset is any different than talking on a cb (well besides being completely hand free if I didn't say that some smart ### will lol)? Are they going to ban cb's too? Just get a bluetooth cb lol. Yes your honor I was using the cell tower at the time but it was through my cb and cb's are completely legal. Same thing just different frequencies your honor.
