Maybe I was blaming the drivers too much when a Climate 'mechanic' tells me it's normal for a hub to be seeping oil and to just run it as is. Worst case is the wheels detach themselves and strike a mini van loaded with kids -- no biggie. Line up of brand new trucks on the lot and every other trailer has seeping hubs makes sense, I reckon.

Hey it's alright partner. The mrs. made mention of the fact that she misses Climate as well. She's out riding around watching me do the grain wagon thing for a couple weeks. Hope all is well with ya! We're in Oklahoma on our way to kansas. It's certainly been a hot couple a days down this way.

Tell em to at least make sure ya got hubcaps that are clear enough so ya can visibly check the gear oil level. I always carried a bottle with to be able to top of hubs as needed. Uh yea should it be replaced, well of course it should. That being said though, sometimes ya gotta top some off to feel safe about the operation.

I carry a bottle -- problem is half of them are so hazy, it's hard to tell. If a hub cap coated in oil isn't enough to motivate a replacement, I don't think me saying 'I can't tell the level' will work

Just drove at night for the first time since I got put in 1291 -- the inside 'reflector' housing thing is loose and jumps around every time I hit a bump, which makes the beam jump around with it. I don't know if that's still under warranty or if they have a replacement at the terminal. If I had to guess, they'll probably find a trade in truck on the lot and swap em out.

I just want something to work right at some point lol. My stress level somehow gets higher everyday when it doesn't seem possible.

Well I can tell you are 100% all about checking out an maintaining equipment. That being said, keep an eye on hub an tire temps and be a checking inside the drums for inner seal leaks. If ya do those things and are satisfied that you're not having leaks an excessively hot hubs than that should put your mind at ease. You obviously know the drill, so just make sure you feel comfortable with the safe operation of things.

It's hard to really see if it's actually oil leaking. Professor alluded to it in his post. I always have a spray bottle wipe it off and look if I'm unsure. Sometimes it's just dirt and grime buildup over not washing the wheels off. It looks like that same grime that you see on the reefer fuel gauge and tank sometimes. Then other times, I'll get a whiff to make sure it isn't oil. I know inhad them fix one not long ago and it was busted completely. The oil spewed everywhere on thay wheel. I'm glad I wasn't loaded all that heavy, because that would have been disastrous.

They get messy in a hurry when they completely go. I've gotten (probably overly) paranoid about them after that story of the driver getting hit by a set of wheels and passing away in Ohio. Maybe I just need to take a deep breath at some point :D

I was just in Kansas earlier grabbing Coke in Olathe. I just made it to deliver in Du Quoin, IL. First time I've unloaded here. I'm at the gate as usual lol...dang you went all the way to gulf. I know it was simmering. Last time I went down there it was so hot, and that was the one time I ever used a Porta potty. It was even hotter in there. From that moment, I vowed to stay away from all portable toilets. Scarred me for life lol.
