Hello, I would like your opinion as to the severity of this situation. I am a local truck driver. I was at a stop light in downtown, and stopped well before the stop line. The reason I stopped well before the stop line is because it was in the shade. If I would have pulled up to the stop line, I would have been sitting in the sun. It was 105 degrees outside. A couple of weeks earlier my FB friends and I were discussing in general the bewildering practice of some people who don't pull up to the stop line. And so my post said, this is the only reasonably excuse for not pulling all the way up to the stop line: shade. (the shade, of course, was created by the downtown buildings). I am FB friends with only one person at work. I thought she was a friend, but it turns out she isn't. She stabbed me in the back, and reported my post. Now keep in mind, that I was stopped at a stop light. And I merely took a pic with my phone of my windshield. And she reported it to management, and said, Tom took a pic with his phone while in one of our trucks. And so I was brought into a meeting, and was reprimanded for using my phone while in the truck. It's not like I was in motion and taking video. It's not like I was Googling. I wasn't talking on the phone. I wasn't texting. I merely took a pic while stopped at a stop light. No reasonably person would think I was being unsafe. I am interested in your thoughts. Please don't respond by playing devil's advocate. I'm interested in what you think.... if you know what I mean. Disclaimer, the woman who reported this post is a part of the management team. But nonetheless, I considered her a friend. No one else I work with is on my friend's list except her. And my FB timeline is set to private. I am not reckless with my posts. One... I trusted her. And, two, I did not think it was a big deal. What do you think?
My coworker reported my Facebook to management

When will people learn that social media is not your friend?

I would chalk this up to a life lesson. You now know that you cannot trust her, you should also know that social media is a public ##### house and you never know what you will catch by playing with it.

Here’s what I know: I can’t be Facebook friends with anyone from work if I’m going to tell stories about work. I got a friend request from our safety/training guy (we hit it off, are of a similar age, share several interests), and there’s no stinkin’ way I’m going to share my stories with him, he’s in management!

I would never post a picture from inside a company truck. We all know as drivers that we're under a microscope and operate under a different set of rules than everyone else. Having a picture you took from the driver's seat opens you up to all kinds of potential issues. I'm sure an attorney would love that picture to prove in a hypothetical future case that you show a history of unsafe distracted driving. Bottom line driver just be smart and don't shoot yourself in the foot.Peterbilt 567 Lover, Albertaflatbed, Savor the Flavor and 10 others Thank this.

And, it is a stop light. How long would you have been sitting in the sun? A minute.
Don't you have A/C in your truck?Albertaflatbed, mustang190, bryan21384 and 6 others Thank this. -
Your coworker is a company Kool Aid drinking snitch.

Clean out your FB page of everything, including all pics AND posts. If your “friends” aren’t people you have a regular relationship with, delete them. Set all your privacy settings to the max/most restrictive. Have something generic for your profile and background pics. This way, you can still use FB for browsing your pages of interest, without risk of BS. Get someone to help you with all this, if you’re not proficient at social media.
Never be any kind of friends with any co-workers. Have a friendly, professional relationship and that’s it. Keeps it clean and simple.Albertaflatbed, dunchues, Savor the Flavor and 12 others Thank this. -
What you did doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, but being on your phone while driving a truck is such a no no nowadays that many companies have adapted a zero tolerance policy, which means every time you touch that phone while in the drivers seat you are playing with fire.
The coworker is a douche but that’s beside the point. Anyone could have seen you and reported it.Albertaflatbed, bryan21384, Bean Jr. and 6 others Thank this.
