There must be a tax benefit to hiring drivers, each new hire counting as as a job "created. "

I started with cfi 16 yrs ago. Didn't stay long. But they were flooded with newbies
walking around waiting for a trainer. Some waiting weeks . We all wondered why they recruited en masse. That explains it, low pay. Always having rookies driving. When they want more pay they move on. They feed the "driver shortage" story to the gullible media, and on the tail end of covid.

I have traveled throughout the United States and this idea that it is hard to find nutritious food is oftentimes an excuse. Some of my friends from college started a vending business and they ended up landing a couple of hospital accounts. Whenever they took over a new account they would place a note on the machine asking people for suggestions as to what to put in the vending machines. They would often get asked to put in healthy stuff yet whenever they actually did place the healthy items they always failed to sell. They would revert back to putting regular stuff in and sales would go back up. People talk about wanting to eat healthy but that's it, they talk about wanting to quit smoking or lose weigh all while doing exactly the opposite. You can go to a 7-11 in just about every ghetto in American and they have bananas, apples, salads, etc. This stuff does not sell but the donuts, chips, and other crap sell like crazy. The sedentary lifestyle is very true and very self inflicted so again just another excuse.

About ten years ago when I was working a dollar store account at a mega they held a big meeting. They claimed after the numbers were crunched the whole office/yard of about 100 trucks and probably half a dozen office staff only profited just over $100K the year before.

They wanted the drivers to do an extra store per week lol. As soon as I heard that I had one foot out the door. An operation that big earning that little and they were saying they couldn’t charge Dollar General more, that wasn’t an option they said.

So yeah, I know its hard to believe foe a lot of people, but these megas do operate on razor thin margins on a lot of these accounts.

Also, half the drivers were all “$100,000 is more than I make and Im doing the work, so why are they complaining” lol.

The question is, was the healthy stuff in the vending machine cheaper? It's not that they can't find the stuff.....bad food is considerably cheaper, especially if you have a larger family.

Also, I'm not sure if the corner store and vending machine are adequate players in the healthy food market.

Not everyone makes enough money to buy solely healthy food. If someone who is lower income has to feed a family, and they buy purely healthy stuff, I'm here to tell you, that money ain't going that far. People are going to do what their paychecks say they can do. I am on a plant based diet, and it is far more expensive. My trucker salary wouldn't be able to feed all my kids that way. I'd be in poverty immediately. I manage because it's just me out here. I will say this much, most poor folks can counter some of the effects of bad food with being more active.

A lot of people are either to lazy to cook or don’t cook.
A pot of red beans and rice with cornbread is healthier than a Big Mac.

True enough. I eat beans many days out here just as a meal....there are also days I go into Walmart just to get one of those rotisserie chickens. That's better than fried and I can get a couple of meals out of that out here. Red beans, rice and cornbread is good, as long as it's brown rice, but if that blood sugar ain't right, then I'd probably not eat the cornbread. Lol
