Unions were a great idea when they started because they were truly needed, but overtime as people do with everything we push and push until a positive becomes a negative. Many humans seem to lack the ability to say enough is enough, instead they just keep pushing and then wonder why the thing no longer works right. I would never work for a union company. It removes most of the ability to stand out and often times the dues it generates are used to fund/promote things I disagree with.

I got off the road from 93 to 97 and worked for the county road dept I lived in , in iowa yeah it was union and I was a steward .
Yep there were scumbags there and those busted ### ....
I couldn't deal with the political bs and lack of independence and lack of pride in the equipment we had .
Taking initiative there and being a self starter was strongly discouraged...one snowy morning I hit my plow route early and got wrote up for it because I didn't wait for the bosses ok .
Yep I'm pro union and it's usually management covering they're can that ruin it .
Been a truck owner since .dwells40, JoeyJunk, LtlAnonymous and 3 others Thank this. -

This shut down has nothing to do with the union. The union workers, banks and the government (really the tax payers) have given them every chance to get it together for 15 years. They failed. They can point the finger all they want but at the end of the day all of the other Teamster companies are thriving and took no bail outs. Where did the $700 million go that they borrowed 3 years ago go? They never answer that question. They just deflect, point the finger or just ignore the question. I think there should be an investigation into it and someone should be held accountable for Yellows managments squandering (or embezzlement) of the tax payers money. Looks like I am out of a job Monday. Oh well! I have been to my local and fortunately for me there are others hiring so I'll be OK. Sucks so bad for the senior guys... terrible situation.
