Hazmat Fire/Spill In Chattanooga

Yeah that caused a bad backup all around there 24 west was closed at 75 junction and just before going up east ridge on eastbound. Caused one helluva a mess I had to route around Riverside to hit 75 south because I couldn't see what was going on at the us27 s ramp. Then it almost caused the place I was delivering at to be evacuated. They actually did evacuate a half mile radius of it.

 

Seems he was parked when this happened, and it happened at night. Looks like it started in the trailer since the cab is untouched. I've no clue how this fire could've started on its own.

 

Daycab hauling hazmat parked in a business parking lot overnight. Wow.

Unless it was early and he was eating nearby?

 

Spontaneous combustion due to ambient heat. Chemical reaction due to leaking container(s). There are a myriad of possibilities but we won't know for sure until the investigation is complete.

 

Ive hauled that organic peroxide in 55 gal barrels before in the heat and had no trouble. I bet there was a hole punched in something while loading.

 

This occured at night though. While it can still be 90F+ at night, there is no direct sunlight, so the chances of a spontaneous combustion should be slim. If this was purely weather related we'd also hear far more reports of loaded trailer fires sitting at warehouses. That parking lot should have a camera. Hopefully they'll be able to show exactly what happened.
