I'm not familiar with the DD but I've blown several head gaskets on a cat and only symptoms I ever had was pushing coolant. No other problems. At least until it really let loose and then I was burning and mixing coolant at a rapid pace

I'm leaning toward head gasket, just wish I'd know 100% that that's what it is, either thru a positive test or something, I think the bubbling once the thermostat opens from overflow tube into a water bottle is the sign, I've eliminated all other things that produce air or that can introduce pressure into coolant system, I just don't want it to be that, I guess is why I'm so hesitant

Did you get an OEM or aftermarket coolant reservoir? Also when you shut down is the top hose collapsed the next morning?I got an aftermarket from the Freightliner dealer to replace my cracked one and I've had that problem since I replaced it and never did before.i think the caps are the issue not 100% for sure but to remedy it I just loosened the overflow cap a little bit and don't have any issues.2016 DD13 with 806k

I’ll take head gasket for 200 Alex

If I leave the top cap a little loose which I've tried, coolant then overflows from it, instead of side releave cap, the hose doesn't collapse next morning still has some pressure, hose isn't real hard but probably holding 5 psi or so, I did buy aftermarket one from fleetpride, half the price,

Been running mine with side cap loosened for over 100k now, had 2 oil analysis's done since and absolutely no problems. I'd try the side cap if I were you just to eliminate one more thing.

One more clue might be the relative compression test in the DDDL software. There are other things besides a leaking head gasket that can cause a cylinder to lose compression. But you can at least verify that it is happening.
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
