I had to replace the ECM on my 97 3406E in a 97 FLD120, it starts, idles haven't driven it. The gauge readings are off.
Dash gauge oil pressure is 50lbs cold even prior to ECM replacement, the Cat digital display has it at 16.5psi. Has always matched prior to ECM replacement.
Tachometer in dash is at 3000+ , Cat display has it at 600. It's not idling at 3000.
Cat display has engine temp at 50F, exterior ambient temp was 77F. The 2 matched prior to ECM replacement. I did not let it warm up only ran it for 2 minutes.
I have not driven it speedometer probably off also.
ECM has setting fields for all this anyone know what they are? So when I take the ECM to CAT to update these settings I can request it all be correct.

I had a different brand truck with a Cat and leaning toward a bad ECM. I called the dealer requesting more wiring information.
Cat said the program was papiratory to the truck manufacturer. This ECM is brain dead and they cannot reproduce it.
Dealer said they could do all this but the truck would not start with their ECM. Had me pull all the injectors and give all the codes. They came out several times and finally pulled the oil pan. A sensor screws into the right side of the block and referances a notch in one of the connecting rods. It kept breaking off.
Your deal sounds kind of like the guy that had a Western Star deleted. I thank they probably had a common Freightliner program and loaded it into a Star. It was all screwed up. Finally got most stuff to work but cruise and jakes never worked again.

    gafred99 Thanks this.

Normal procedure is to download the information off the old ECM, then program all those settings and parameters into the new ECM. If the old ECM was damaged to the point it couldn't be read by ET then the mechanic would have to manually enter all the settings and parameters.

Original ECM could not even be powered up outside of truck. the insulation between block and ecm corroded the aluminum housing of ECM and water got in.
Anyone know the parameter fields for a freightliner-cat combo?
