He doesn't have to settle for poor wages being a new driver. That DOT Foods job could have him earning well over $100k in a year's time.
Been job searching, family owned dump truck business??

All these places gonna hire a kid at 20? If he's just needing a job till he turns 21, i don't see the problem.
Terrible economy, high risk driver, insurance for a 20 yo, etc.
It's the bottom rung on a ladder, nothing more or less.Last edited: Aug 12, 2023

That's why I recommended Dot Transportation; hires 18 yr. old drivers.
Drivers Under 21 - Drive For DTI | Dot Transportation, Inc.

Start Driving at 18 (Not 21)!
While many transportation companies make you wait until you’re 21 to start driving professionally, several Dot Transportation distribution centers and terminals have openings for prospective drivers right out of high school!
Since drivers must be at least 21 years of age to cross state lines, DTI’s “intrastate routes” (i.e. routes that do not require crossing state lines) allow drivers at least 18 years of age to start turning over miles and earn money without straying too far from home.rollin coal, North Pole Nightmare and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
I started out as a swamper on hydrovac and steam trucks 15 years ago. New drivers there were making over $200/day back then.

they must buy the freight and ship it or remanifest it tthen because you cannot haul any freight going interstate either
-
They haul groceries out of a warehouse in Bear, Delaware. Trailers are loaded there item by item. The under 21 driver hauling that trailer must stay within the confines of the state of Delaware.

I phoned DOT Foods up in Bear DE yesterday but the hiring managers already left work for the weekend off and HR won't be back until Monday. I'll call DOT Foods on Monday

Makes sense because the freight has to as well, back when I was a wee lad hauling doubles we had to make sure both wagons had mass only stops, because even if I dropped the wagon for someone else to take from ma to NH, I was still hauling interstate
good on them for getting it to work though, I thought they were just a big TL carrier
tanker and doubles also wouldn’t be bad go get but haz is also 21Chinatown Thanks this. -
DOT is a private carrier. It's a good gig with excellent health benefits. He's young and could easily retire a millionaire from them if he played his cards right. He'd be delivering to the same customers every day and be home nightly + off weekends. Probably one of the only carriers right now that will hire an 18-22 year old. He'd be lumping freight but at least not truckin it down ramps like most food delivery jobs.

Your choices are more limited until you are age 21 or 23. Not having your dream job doesn't mean you won't get it eventually. You should minimize job chages when possible. The best companies won't hire drivers with more than 2 or 3 jobs in 5 years. The very best want to see you stay put for years at a company.
Sort out what your goal is and then make that goal happen.rollin coal Thanks this.
