Hey all,
I am looking at a 94 Peterbuilt 379 with the 340B
I am also looking at a 2007 Peterbuilt 379 with the C15
What iso you guys think about these two engines. The 94 has a million miles but has been serviced and well taken care of. The 2007 is at 80000 and decent.
I am curious about the reliability. If you have any knowledge or experiences I would appreciate it.
Thank you
CAT 340B VS C15. What is your opinion

94 is paper log 2007 is elog 94 mechanical injection 2007 electronic injection.. if the 2007 is a dpf model run away fast .. most would say the 94 is more reliable but it’s old so it depends on condition. Both aren’t great on fuel in stock form ..another issue on the 94 is mechanics who know them are getting harder to find ..
Oxbow and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -

Over the Acert all dayexhausted379, cke, mustang190 and 4 others Thank this. -
Well the Acert is the better motor hands down. The 07 is a way more comfortable truck hands down. 379’s are not all the same, same as all B models are not the same nor are all C-15’s.
I run an 91 with a B that I wouldn’t trade for 5 07 models. But an old 379 with a mechanical motor ain’t for everyone. First and foremost no cruise. 2nd if Jake is on at idle it will kill it. 3rd I can promise you and I ain’t seen it after you pull load 1 with it your gonna want more power and you don’t down load a “tune” in a B. Lots a people say their so simple to work on…..till those same people get one so ####ed up it’s junk. I’d think long and hard not get in over your headexhausted379, cke, Magoo1968 and 12 others Thank this. -
07 and 08 weren't good years and get lousy economy. If the 07 has a dpf.
-
1st thing is have you ever driven a mechanical motor before and if so you you know the correct manor to operate a mechanical motor ? If your answer is no to either question then you better think about the 07
As @wore out said they are 2 completely different types trucksLast edited by a moderator: Aug 14, 2023

Bet the odometer has rolled over on the 94.
cke, Big Road Skateboard, FlyingJ mafia and 2 others Thank this. -
All the manufacturers bought every 06 engine they could get to put in the 07 trucks. Not sure about Paccar, but the Daimler family brands got 07 engines later into 07 model year production.cke and singlescrewshaker Thank this.

Those old CAT motors were the best, but now they're getting old. Not sure how parts availability will be in another 5 years, when they will be as rare as hen's teeth, though...
Also, consider that California keeps threatening to BAN older motors.cke and singlescrewshaker Thank this.
