They do that! They do come out in hours of darkness. It's why I highly recommend investing in a hard hat light so that you can see any critters that might be about during low light conditions.
What do you guys do about rattlesnakes around your truck?

I myself have never seen a live one out after dark, but apparently they're not as solar-powered as I thought because I've heard other people say the same thing you just did.
And I've always had a hard hat light, you definitely need both hands-free when you're gauging tanks and working oil.Bret1984 Thanks this. -
That's another good reason for a hard hat light. It's just a handy thing to have. I got mine for $30 off Amazon. It's rechargeable so I can just plug it in. A charge lasts for a ridiculously long time and it's insanely bright. I've been using it for 2 years now so also very durable. Best $30 I ever spent. It also has a band and uses clips to attach to the hard hat so you could also remove the clips and use it as a regular headlamp with the elastic band.RockinChair Thanks this.

Surprised nobody said they'd run away screaming like a little girl. Seen it happen before just because of a black racer lol.

One of the last ones i’ve encountered was around 11 after dark. I shutdown my shop and was walking across driveway to house and in the darkness in the corner of my eye saw what looked like a 3’ long stick or corn shuck blowing in the wind pacing me and then stopping 40 feet or so away from me. Flash lighted it. Rattler. Went in house and grabbed shotgun and blasted it. The Mexican Eagles will pick them up. We keep 12 ga. just inside the door because countless times growing up you’d have one just outside the door waiting to be stepped on in the morning. They want to get in for heat in winter and water in summer.austinmike, Bret1984 and RockinChair Thank this.

LMAO I've lived most of my life in South Texas and this is the first time I've ever heard 'em called that. I'm definitely going to start using it from now on.

I’ve seen it too! Kind of comical when some of the supposedly manly men run like that.

I use a Boritt headlamp with a black light. It makes gauging oil at night easy because the UV light makes oil glow. Another thing that glows under UV light: Scorpions.RockinChair and Bret1984 Thank this.

What do I do about rattlesnakes around my truck? I try to avoid them by not parking in places like this.
Sons Hero, PaulMinternational and Bret1984 Thank this. -
Site won’t let me upload the video.
Good news. I’m loading from the same battery and someone actually listened. They dug all the grass out of the battery and redid the berm the snakes were living in. No worries.austinmike, Bret1984, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this.
