They laid off 1/3 of them in January. I was one of them. How did they decide which drivers to lay off? Which ever ones were driving 2006.
-
CRE will never change !
-
They did do away with company drivers, at least new ones. -
You see Corneileous, everything you post about CRE is about what they taught you about their equipment. The main concern being what they failed to teach you. After all, what can you learn in one week, especially when you have third party examiners on site?? Did you know every person in the office of that company you so egregiously defend has a CDL? And I guarantee you they didn't get in a truck in order to obtain it. You must be one of the last commpany drivers hired because they stopped hiring company drivers around Oct. 2009. Well, if you can stand it, good luck and God bless. You're gonna need it!! -
They have not announced that officially. The recruiters are still telling people they can come in as a company driver.

CR England has not completely eliminated company drivers. However, they have officially eliminated solo company drivers from the nation-wide OTR fleets.
New drivers can, indeed, be hired as company drivers. However, they will not be operating as a solo for quite awhile. They will be placed with a team driver and this means they may be waiting for someone to resign, expire or be terminated before they can be placed on a truck. I have known new drivers who have had to wait up to 3 months to be assigned to a truck.
Currently, if you wish to be a solo company driver with CR England, you must be a local driver, a regional driver or be assigned to certain dedicated fleets. As you can surmise, these positions are not easy to get. When CR England eliminated solo drivers on the nation-wide fleets, guess where all the experienced senior drivers went to avoid having to team up.....you got it! They transferred as fast as they could to local, regional and dedicated! -
To my knowledge, I've only posted that once. I dunno, maybe I missed something, but I'm pretty sure that was the only time.
Sure, there was a lot of things they didnt teach me. A lot of it I had to learn on my own. I highly doubt they more less "failed" to teach me because lets face it, in order for them to teach you "everything", it would take a lot more than a week, now wouldnt it?? Since their school cost almost 3 grand for the two of us, I'll stick with the one week. But, you failed to realize one important fact; Although you are in a classroom for a week, your real, OTJ training begins with a month's worth of phase one training. That is, if you get a good trainer. Our first one sucked, but after a week, we got a new one that was awesome. Then, for phase two, you go out for two months. Granted, alot of it has to do with leasing, but still, if you get a good trainer, thats more OTJ training before you go out by yourself. So all in all, its a lot more than just a week.
They teach you the basics....period. As I said before, I learned alot. So did my wife who knew absolutely nothing about trucks, nor how to drive them. Who knows, maybe its because i had other skills that helped me along.
Whether you are right or wrong, tell me why I should care about this at all??
Another thing, I am not defending them in the same fashion that most of you so foolishly assume I am. I know they have their faults as with every other company. There may be some, but from what Ive seen so far, everybody on here has something negative to say about every company out there. Theres been a few things, but all in all, they have been fair with my wife and I. Whatever they did to piss on your wheaties is between you and them and for now, I beg to differ.
Was for about 9 months. Woulda stuck with it but since the truck we had was at the end of it's lease, we re-thunk the lease program and decided it would be in our better intrest to talk to people who knew what they were talking about when it came to leasing because we were told by our previous DM that they were cuttin company drivers down to around 250 and that since they cancelled their latest order from Freightliner for more company trucks, the wait for a new truck was gonna be around two weeks.
So far, we have been "standing" it pretty well. Thanks for the best of luck, but you dont have to act like we're goin off to war with the risk of never returning....Fyr Thanks this. -
I am going to step out here on a limb, Please don't think Im sticking up for CRE, and Im sorry for everyone who has gotten robbed by them, but with all the negative stuff Ive read, I have to ask, How do they stay in business?
If they cant keep drivers? and are constantly training new guys, they must have a core of good drivers that are running well and making a living right? somebody has to be delivering thier frieght.
Is it just the new guys who go through thier training program that are getting screwed?
How would an expirienced driver fair if they went there not needing CDL training?
Im just wondering, I believe they do take advantage of new guys, but I have to also wonder who thier top drivers are and how they are doing. -
And we can all believe recruiters can't we??
