I have been to the dealer multiple times and they have not been able to fix the issue and have no idea on a fix. Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar. I have a 2018 freightliner cascadia that goes into neutral between 9-10 and 11-12 for 4-5 secs. Only happens when going up or down hill. No fault codes. Recent oil change, fluids checked, no leaks. Happens mostly when load is heavy.

I've read they're supposed to do that in order to save on fuel when reading up about automatics in the past.
truckvet and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Sounds similar to the Volvo i-see system when using cruise control.
Truck has mapped routes with grade, curves etc and will coast at certain points such as cresting a hill to improve fuel economy.
Look in your truck manual and see if it has a similar system. You can Google vovlo i-see to get more of an idea about the Volvo system but it sounds similar.truckvet and Opendeckin Thank this. -
Yes, this is normal. I have a Western Star which is made by Freightliner. The system is called Navteq.truckvet and Albertaflatbed Thank this.

would that have been installed on a manual 2013 Cascadia? The reason I ask is my rig would always accelerate when approaching an uphill when I had cruise control on, always suspected that my truck had internal maps because it did have a gps module that was always throwing codes. Now I am sure.Albertaflatbed Thanks this.

If they’re talking about E coast or similar it wouldn’t do it between gears while going uphill.
Is it happening with the cruise set? Or on the pedal? Or both? Does the display show neutral or does it display the next gear but it gets hung up in between?tscottme, truckvet, Albertaflatbed and 1 other person Thank this. -
No idea if that was available in 2013. My truck is a 2022.Albertaflatbed Thanks this.

Good point. Mine will occasionally do it when uphill but just when it is a short hill and usually when about to the top of the hill . Also, the dash should say coast when doing that and then automatically go back in gear when needed.Albertaflatbed Thanks this.

that’s the thing, my truck would always start accelerating right before a hill even if I was going downhill prior to the larger hill upfront. Always wondered now I have a possible answer. Possibly a feature that was developed into what is now called NavTeqTruckermania and Albertaflatbed Thank this.

Navteq is merely the name of the company that provides the geographic data to the various GPS manufacturers.
Currently Freightliner's system is called IPM.
They had another name for the earlier versions that I don't recall, Predictive Cruise, maybe?Truckermania Thanks this.
