When I was a boy, aunt Winnie use to put Vaseline on the rubber door seals of her Falcon. Seem to work fine keeping the rubber soft. Old timers had old ways lol….

If something has been sitting for a fair amount of time.. and it is leaking around a O ring I have taken the Oring out and coated it with vaseline put it back together and 9 time out of 10 it will seal up as long as the O ring is damagedDeere hunter and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this.

I've been spitting on glad hand rubbers for WAY too many years! LOL.

The reason the glad hands get like that is because of the split in the very tip. The split gets water and corrosion starts and the split gets bigger and bigger. When the split gets bigger you have less room between the body and the plate on the side.
Gotta replace the glad hands. They're pretty cheap and easy.
