New Canadian was in MTO office trying to get registrations/plates for 3 big trucks he just purchased. He had a bill of sale and a picture of the ad featuring the trucks. He did not know the trucks would require SAFETY INSPECTION CERTIFICATE to get license plates.

 

If you are asking on here where to find loads, then don't buy a truck.

You need to already know your cost of operating the truck, what is the minimum you can run for to make a profit after setting funds aside for maintenance, paying yourself, insurance, emergency fund, truck replacement in 'x' years, ifta, plates etc.

Also you should already know what loads you will run and where to find those loads with direct freight clients or leasing on with a specific company. Planning to rely on load boards is not a good plan.

Do so.e door knocking, find clients that have the type of freight you want to haul, get relationships going with the people that decide who is called to move their freight. Know what they are paying currently, and how many loads they ship on average.

 

Buying the truck is the easy part. All of the aforementioned stuff needs to be figured out first. Personally, I will never buy my own truck. Way too many headaches.

 

Not offended at all, just pointing out the stuff you need sorted out to be successful, lots of folks think buy a truck and loads on the load boards will pay the bills, then they realize too late running a truck is a business and have no idea what to do to make a profit, and lose everything in the process.

 

Don’t take offence, experienced folks are trying to stop you from making a terrible decision. Don’t do this. Get a co driving job, and get experience and learn the business. It’s hard out there for owner ops. As said, plunking down financing is the easy part.
