I have a 379 that I get I. The 6's and split duty between van and flatbed, when I am just flatbed and hauling low to the deck stuff I am in the 7's your hood has very little to do with your fuel mileage, it's more about being geared right for your conditionsexhausted379, kemosabi49, Last Call and 2 others Thank this.

I just looked at their website 5 minutes ago…. ? 18 assembled titled trucks for sale…..
my question is what does a cat dealership say …? They are pretty fussy about such things…. -
That square hood has everything to do with fuel mileage. You'd get 8 or better in an aero truck doing the same work, on the low end of the spectrum.Vampire, Siinman, Old_n_gray and 1 other person Thank this.

There is a guy near me that takes trucks off of auction or unsalable getting them really cheap, rips them apart, and rebuilds them with new trans, axles and the engine built by a company in Jackson. Some of them are pre-99 so he doesn't need a title but has been doing a number of 2008 and 9 trucks in the last year which he has assembled titles for. What he does for the late models is swap all the parts around and then get it inspected by the MSP for a new title, it is assembled out of parts and because assembled vehicles don't need to have a model year, they don't have to have emissions. The guy just put his kids to work there because he doesn't have enough help and every truck he has built has been sold.

I dont know ...I dont run in the same circles as those that pay 200k for a used truck .
They are in Fremont on bus. 275 just south of Sapp bros. -
I work with a guy who has a brand new 2024 model. It's a limited edition model and says bossman paid $380g. #64 of 900.
He claims it's the last year for the 900 but the forum disagrees.
At any rate. He's got the limited edition emblem molding on his glove box.Vampire, Oxbow, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
I wouldn’t think Cat much cares about what is done with their used engines.Vampire, Oxbow, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this.

I doubt it, I have ran both, the one thing that effects a hood more than any truck is wind, yes in the wind my hood costs me. Flat deck work the hood ain't gonna make one bit of difference, it's about what is on the deck. You guys like to generalize everything, I will go work at the local hardware store before I pull a van every where the only reason I ever hook to those things is because I need to to for the account I am on, otherwise I would never hook to one. You are not going to get 8 average with any truck, hood, or aero in the open deck world, the wind will take your money and laugh the whole way, it matters about what is on the deck and how you deal with it as a driver more than anythingexhausted379 Thanks this.

Not generalizing anything, facts are facts. You said your truck might get 7 pulling a van. I get 8mpg all the time in an aero truck pulling a reefer. The past 2 aero trucks I drove could hit 8mpg without hardly trying. One even ran 75mph most of the time on the open road. I pull heavier loads bumping 5-7 docks a day running back roads, hitting lots of redlights, mountain grades, 2 lanes, hills and get 8mpg. I don't pull flats but I've seen a bunch of them and not every flat load is a huge windsail mpg killer. Agreeded there are flat loads where nothing you do will get decent economy but some loads are more aerodynamic than others. All things equal the aero truck will beat the hood every time.
