Here are a few suggestions and they don't really cost much, if anything...

If the truck has the cab curtains.. pull those instead of the bunk curtains and it will give you a more open, less stuffy feeling. If it don't have these curtains, many TS's sell them and with about 4 curtain hooks from walmart you have twice the room. You can also use a large blanket or two if you like.

Leave your stereo and dash lights on and down real low if you can, along with some dim easy on the eyes colored blue or purple mood lights in the bunk, while you surf the web, play games, or whatever until you are ready to crash. I added a little chrome to my dash to make it reflect the colored lights and it really made the truck feel more a like a bar to me... heh!

Like others have said here... The bed is all important. I have a nice pillow top and tons of blankets and pillows to curl up in while sleeping and it makes a big difference from the old spring in the back, bed of nails rest. And it give me the feel of my bed at home. If you can't get a pillow top, pile up blankets about 4 inches deep.

Carpet is also good, But change it out with a different color and texture every couple of months. Not only is this healthy and gives you that new home smell, it will give you a sense of being in a different place for a bit. Brand new carpet is also friendly and nice on bare feet. Many carpet companies will give you or sell you remnants for a little of nothing.

Don't buy the same flavor air fresheners, make your home smell different from time to time.

Keep your home clean and tidy. A tidy, organized home is much more relaxing than a messy chaotic one.

There are all kinds of things you can add and change around in your cab and bunk to make it feel like a home or different from the previous week, to keep you comfortable and a little less bored.

For me, REAL bedding and sheets.... I hate sleeping bags. Used my bag as a comforter so I had just in case it got real cold.

Cheap, small DVD player and a couple movies.

Had the wifey make windshield and side window curtains, hung with velcro. As meantioned above, it doubled the space.

A cheap TV tray. Useable as a desk, laptop stand, dinner table, etc.

Be neat, organized, and eliminate clutter! I have everything in my truck in "it's" spot. I can tell you where something is at in my truck when I'm not even in it. The less "stuff" you have laying around the more room you will have for yourself.

Definatley a good laptop, with this one tool you can:

    1) sign on with SKYPE (internet telephone) using a headset w/ mic and save your minutes on the cell phone and can call any phone (land or cell) anywhere in the World for $4.95 per month.
2)Sign up with netflix for $9.99 per month to watch movies from their data base, as many as you want as long as you want.
    3) Get a set of decent speakers to plu into you laptop and can go onto MYSPACE/click on the music tab (no account needed) and in the search window put whatever music you listen to and pick the artist's official site and choose the albums you want to listen to and booyow nice tunage for your truck, and seriously there's everything from gregorian chant's to boz scaggs, EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF!
4)SPINTOP.com for free online games (not the best but it'll be somthing to occupy your time
5)Go to FOX/CBS/ABC/DISCOVERY/HISTORY CH or any cable station and watch full episodes of anything that was on recently.

Yeah i do have a 5gig with verizon but i have two plans (2 modems) it's better than going over # .25 per mega bite.

10 gigs per month # $120. , I know it sounds like alot of money but home 2-3 per month its worth it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have been Solo OTR for about 4 months now and I would say the down time has been the hardest part of the job. I had a layover in Tacoma, WA for 3 days about a month ago and I just got claustrophobia so bad and just felt alone. The last few weeks I've beem throwing down some serious miles and havent had time for anything other than driving and sleeping. Which is good and bad.

It's getting a little better, and I will take all of your suggestions to make the truck more comfortable. My trainer told me a few months ago that it takes everyone a different amount of time to adjust and I believe it! Thanks for your support.

    Hi Packard,

You might want to consider looking into a Kindle from Amazon. We both love to read and have found ours to be a couple of the best purchases we ever made. You can get hundreds of thousands of old public-domain books completely free from several sources and of course newer books from Amazon themselves for a fairly reasonable rate.

Between the two Kindles we have in the truck we each always have several hundred books available to us and yet combined they only take up about as much space as a box of crackers. Great space saver for the truck.

A great thing about it for people who are getting older is you can change the size of the text anytime. If it's getting late and your eyes are getting tired you can just push a button and get a larger font size. Next morning just change it back. Also, because they aren't back-lit you don't get the eye-fatigue that you can get reading on the computer.

Not sure how much they run now because we had to have one the instant they became available so naturally we paid way too much. :biggrin_25511:

I am still under the Alltel contract and had unlimited usage for data for the internet, thus the reason I dont want to re-sign my contract to verizon as they will make me get the 5gig limit. Verizon sucks and screwed up alltel customers once they took over.... Nice thing about lcd tv's is if your laptop has a vga output you can hook your computer display to the tv and watch movies that way instead of the small laptop screen.(Provided your lcd has a vga input as most new ones do)
