Have a run coming up to Lawrenceville, Ga. Need advice on route. Will be running on a Saturday.
I see there are two possible routes that I could take.
I81 to I77 to I485 around Charlotte. Then I485 to I85 to Lawrenceville. Looked at Google and saw a lot of red around Charlotte.
The other route is I81 to I26 to I85 to Lawrenceville. Not as much red. Pick up I85 south of Charlotte.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

81-77-85 easier running even with traffic
You can miss some by running west on 40 to 321 south at Hickory then down to 85

Where Ga hwy 51 intersects I-85 -- are two very good truck stops. The Flying J there I have NEVER SEEN anywhere near full; the T/A across the hwy is very good, too. The T/A also has a Blue Beacon, as I recall.

If you could get to that exit the night before -- odds are extremely high that you would find parking that is quite acceptable.

The sooner on saturday you get to your destination, the better. Traffic picks up around Atlanta more and more on Saturday as the day progresses.

Examine both routes you've described for possible bad construction delays, as well. Charlotte traffic isn't bad -- if you time it right going thru there.

On checking the routes noted, even the one going through Hickory, what are we talking about time wise for the run?

Plan on at least 10 hours of driving time.

That's just driving time -- if you stop for fuel, or experience construction delays, etc, add to that accordingly.

I'd use the route mentioned by @'olhand in post #2

9.5 to 10.5 driving hours depending on which route you drive and traffic.

    Truckersheldan Thanks this.

Plan on the Flying J, X141 on I85. That's the closest you'll get to Atlanta.
The pilot up the road is a disaster 24/7.
    And there's nothing else.

Thanks to all so far. All good info. Have always came into Atlanta on the western side. First time on the eastern side. Probably doesn’t make much difference. Traffic around Atlanta can be hit or miss.

No man....85 to 285 is the worst of them all.
Do yourself a huge favor and get up at 3.
